Into the carving...............

The generally well-known process of turning sand and casting money is roughly to carve the mother first, then cast the mother money, and finally have the child money. In fact, there is a process in front of the carving mother, that is, to make a kind of carving mother that is first approved by the emperor or the money bureau, which we call it temporarily: into the carving pattern. Most of the carvings are carved with soft materials, generally tin, tooth bone, wood and so on. ....................................................

According to the records, the engraving of the Kaiyuan Tongbao back armor mark money is made of wax. Zheng Qian of the Tang Dynasty said in his "Huizheng": "Inquiring about the wax sample at the beginning of the consultation, I took a trace from Empress Wende, so there was a text on the money. "

That is to say, the sample that Ouyang inquired about to present to the emperor Kaiyuan Tongbao (carved with wax) was cut by Empress Wende (Empress Tang Taizong, who should have been a princess at the time), leaving nail marks, so there were nail marks behind the Kaiyuan Tongbao. Later, this kind of armor mark was also attached to Wu Zetian and Yang Guifei.

There are very few records of early carvings, and they may not be easy to preserve and not circulate in kind, which has yet to be examined, but it is indeed a good idea to use wax as a carving.

The Qing Dynasty is carved

Most of what we can see now is the Qing Dynasty's jincheng carvings.

The inscriptions of the Qing Dynasty have been circulated in kind, and the evidence is also well documented. Bao Kang's "Catalogue of The Great Spring" records that every time a new coin is minted, it is first carved into a money sample with ivory for the Qianfatang to review. After the approval is approved, the bronze carving mother is carved according to this shape, and the carving mother turns the sand to make the mother money, and finally the mother money is recast and circulated. It can be seen that this kind of sample money is the source of coinage and has very important research value.

The surviving carvings of the Qing Dynasty are also very rare, and there are only a few authentic products that have been handed down to the people. Bao Kang of the Qing Dynasty, Chen Rentao, Luo Bozhao, Zhang Shubo, Mr. Ma Dingxiang, etc., all of whom have collected Jincheng carvings, of which the old collections of Chen Rentao and Luo Bozhao are now stored in the National Museum. Mr. Zhang Xiaobo once received a sample of fifty wood carvings from the Xianfeng Baohe River, which is famous and is now in the collection of the National Museum.
