Sanchi Tower
Hello everyone! Today, I would like to introduce you to the Buddhist building located near the village of Popar Sanchi in Madhya Pradesh, India.
The Great Pagoda of Sanchi is the best-preserved pagoda in the form of a slope block, which has been expanded many times to form a majestic, simple, majestic and magnificent tower with a diameter of 36.6 meters and a height of about 16.5 meters.
There are 4 archway-style pagoda doors in the east, west, south and north of the tower, which are about 10 meters high, and are composed of two columns and three beams crossing, and the column body, beam body and column beam intersect in the space.
Although the gate is made of stone, it is still modeled on a wooden structure, and it is also covered with exquisite carvings and reliefs, including Buddhist stories, symbols and ornate flora and fauna, which is the essence of early Buddhist art.
It is said that most of these sculptures were designed and carved by ivory sculptors in the city of Bidisha, a famous city of oriental ivory carving art, and the works were exported to the Roman Empire.
Ivory sculptors here were instructed by Greek sculptors. According to historical records, in ancient Times, the famous Greek sculptor Heliodoros was sent to India to serve in the court of King Vedissa's mother-in-law, Bhadra.
In the sculpture of the Great Tower of Sanchi, the image of the winged lion and the vulture-headed lion monster of the Achaemenid dynasty of the Persian Empire can also be seen, which can show that it artistically integrated the art of the various peoples of the world at that time.
