On May 31, local time, Giovanni Brusca, a former mafia godfather who had been imprisoned for 25 years in a prison in Rome, Italy, was released from prison, causing concern. Bruska has said he was involved in more than 150 murders.

According to the New York Daily News reported on the 1st, Bruska is a notorious mafia "murderer". At trial in 1997, he admitted that he had detonated a bomb on the road in 1992, which had led to the deaths of anti-mafia prosecutor Giovanni Falcone, his wife and three bodyguards.

In response to Brusca's release, former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Leta said it was like a "blow to the abdomen" that left people breathless. The sister of the victim Falcone said that Bruska was freed because she provided important mafia secrets, and although it was difficult for her to accept the news on an emotional level, the law stipulated that if she could cooperate with the police to help catch the mafia, the sentence could be reduced, which her deceased brother had always approved, so everyone must respect this decision. She also expressed the hope that the Italian judiciary and police would be on high alert to prevent Brusca from committing another crime.

According to US media, Bruska was arrested in 1996 after years of fugitives. He was arrested in a seaside villa in Sicily while sitting with his family watching a television video about Falcone. He was sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in more than 100 murders. However, after providing the police with important information about the mafia, it was changed to a fixed-term imprisonment. (Overseas Network/Zhang Ni Internship Editor/Gu Yue)
