regretful! Ren Ziwei was convicted of a foul and missed the short track speed skating 1500m final

On the evening of February 9, the short track speed skating competition of the Beijing Winter Olympics continued at the Capital Gymnasium. In the just-concluded men's 1500m semifinals, China's Ren Ziwei blocked a foul with his arm and had no chance to attack his third Winter Olympic gold medal.

The 1500m is Ren Ziwei's best event this season, and in the project's World Cup points ranking, he topped the list with two races. In the quarter-finals earlier tonight, Ren Ziwei easily won the first place in the group and advanced to the semi-finals, while the other two Chinese players were eliminated.

In the semi-finals, only two of the seven players in each group can advance to the Final of Group A and qualify for the championship. Ren Ziwei was divided into the third group, along with South Korea's Park Chang-yeon, who ranked third in the World Cup, Italy's Comfour Tora, who won the World Cup in Japan this season, Hungary's Liu Shaoang, and Canada's veteran Hamelin.

In the semi-finals, Ren Ziwei started in the fifth lane and slid in the middle position after starting. In the second half of the race, Ren Ziwei slid to the "First Group" and alternately led the skates with Liu Shaoang. In the final three laps, South Korea's Park Jang-woo surpassed Ren Ziwei from the inner path. In the end, Liu Shaoang took the lead in hitting the line, followed by Park Jang-hyun and Ren Ziwei. After video deliberation, the referee ruled that Ren Ziwei had been disqualified by blocking his arm until the slide.
