One Week Ranking Observation: Bardoza set a new high, with three young players in the top 20 in the world

Although there were no WTA events last week, there are still quite a few changes in the WTA rankings this week.

Among them, the ranking changes of the two players are particularly remarkable.

The first is Spanish player Bardoza, who went from 6th to no. 5 in the world for the first time in singles rankings, setting a new career high, becoming the fourth Spanish female player to enter the world's top 5 since 1975.

Spain's women's players are in the top 5 list:

Sanchez (1995 career high no. 1)

Muguruza (2017 career high No. 1)

Martinez (career highest ranking 1st, 1995 world 2nd)

Badosa (career high 5th in 2022)

In fact, before last year's clay season, Bardoza's highest singles ranking failed to reach the top 60 in the world. But as Espanyol reached the quarter-finals of the French Open, taking the lead in the Grand Slams, the results climbed all the way.

To date, Bardoza has also won three titles including the Belgrade Open, the Indian Wells Tournament and the Sydney Tennis Classic, and has won a "five-game winning streak" against the world's top five players.

If some rise, some fall.

This week, Svayatek dropped from 4th to 8th, but did not give Pliskova, Muguruzza and Sakkari extra chances, and the ranking of the three top ten players did not change much.

In addition, Swiss player Bencic's ranking dropped from 19th to 25th.

Among the players ranked 10-20, last year's US Open runner-up Fernandez continued to climb the rankings, entering the world's top 20 for the first time.

Fernandez reached the grand slam final for the first time at the U.S. Open last year and rose two places this week from 21st to 19th to become the fifth Canadian woman to reach the top 20 of the WTA rankings.

Since 1975, the top 20 Canadian women's players are as follows:

Andrescu (2019 career high 4th)

Bouchard (5th career high in 2014)

Seguso (career high 4th, 8th in 1985)

Helen Kelesi (13th career high in 1989)

Fernandez (19th career high in 2022)

As a result, Fernandez overtook Gauff to become the second-highest-ranked youth player in the WTA, behind Raducano, with the Briton currently ranked 13th. (Source: Tennis House Author: Wu Li Fun)
