The largest archaeological site in China in the 21st century should be Sanxingdui in Sichuan. A large number of cultural relics have been unearthed here, unveiling an unknown page in the history of Chinese civilization. But in fact, Sanxingdui is not found in modern times, in the Qing Dynasty there have been some rumors of Sanxingdui, and became a local tourist attraction in Guanghan, but no one dug it at that time.
The Sanxingdui attraction is actually three mounds, and the Sanxingdui Museum was built on these three mounds. The Guanghan people found these three mounds very early, plus there is a half-moon-shaped earthen platform next to it, so the locals have always called this place three stars with the moon, which is a local special attraction. During the Jiajing period of the Qing Dynasty, the legend of the three stars with the moon has begun to circulate. Although these three mounds have attracted people's attention for hundreds of years, everyone has not had the desire to dig them.
It was not until the 1930s, when some local farmers dug ditches nearby, that they discovered the relics of Sanxingdui, which became one of the largest archaeological discoveries of mankind in the 20th century. The first formal archaeological excavation of Sanxingdui was led by Laowai, who dug up hundreds of cultural relics here, which was really overjoyed and called it Guanghan culture.
It was not until the 1950s, when everything was stable, that it was officially named the Sanxingdui site and placed under key protection. There are too many mysteries around the Sanxingdui civilization, in the 1980s and 1990s, for the sake of cultural relics protection, the excavation work of Sanxingdui was interrupted for a time, and in recent years, Sanxingdui has begun large-scale excavations, and what kind of miracle discoveries will be brought here, which is very worthy of our expectation.
