A total of 30 contestants competed in the figure skating men's singles short program, with the top 24 qualifying for free skating. Japanese star Yusuke Yusuke performed "Introduction and Whirling Capriccio" in a short program, and despite a mistake in the first jump, he still scored a score of 95.15 and successfully advanced to the free skate.
