The head of the design team of the National Speed Skating Hall revealed why the "ice ribbon" is exactly 22

On February 5, the National Speed Skating Hall, known as the "Ice Ribbon", ushered in the first race of the speed skating event of the Beijing Winter Olympics, and the "Ice Ribbon" was finally unveiled. Yesterday, Zheng Fang, head of the design team of the National Speed Skating Hall and deputy chief architect of the Beijing Municipal Construction Institute, walked into the "City of The City of the Two Olympics • Watching Points" live broadcast program held by the Beijing News Center in 2022 to reveal the construction process and design highlights of the "Ice Ribbon" National Speed Skating Hall for the public, and at the same time, from a professional point of view, recommended the best shooting point to go to the "Ice Ribbon" after the game.

Zheng Fang's familiarity with the "ice ribbon" is like his own family. Zheng Fang said that the design of the ice ribbon comes from the concept of combining ice and speed, and the reason why there is such a "high value" is inseparable from the glass material with high transparency and ice-like feeling, and also from the new structural system independently designed and developed by the design team of the Beijing Architectural Design and Research Institute - the heterogeneous mesh shell structure of the single cable supporting the curved curtain wall.

Standing on the Olympic Tower, looking at the distance, the overall oval "ice ribbon" is embedded with a series of crystalline and flexible "ribbons". How many "ribbons" are there in the "ice ribbon"? Zheng Fang revealed that in the original design sketch of the "ice ribbon", only 8 "ribbons" were made, but the computer simulation effect was not ideal, so the design team gradually increased the number of ribbons to more than 50, making it look more like ice and yarn, which can reflect the lightness of the ribbon, but this plan was rejected due to the difficulty of project construction. The team found in continuous attempts that the Beijing Winter Olympics will be held in 2022, so it is better to try the effect of 22 ribbons. Unexpectedly, the number of 22 ribbons achieved the best results in the performance of the sense of speed and the difficulty of engineering construction, as well as the vision of distance and proximity. The 22 "ribbons" not only interpret the cultural intention of traditional Chinese "silk", but also simulate the imprint left by athletes after sliding rapidly.

Another thing that makes Zheng Fang proud is that the National Speed Skating Hall also has a "strongest brain" with high scientific and technological content, through the digital twin platform developed by the Beijing Institute of Construction, it integrates the massive data of the Speed Skating Hall, which is used for high-precision real-time detection of the environment of the venue, equipment system operation, and energy-saving and low-carbon operation under the premise of ensuring the competition and the use of functions. "From the design to the real scene, we put a lot of effort into the three-dimensional curved structure, ventilation, how to send pipes to the roof? The digital stadium pre-built in the digital space, the virtual space construction, composed of more than 3300 curved surfaces and flat glass composed of transparent facades, was the first to be built in the digital model. ”

In addition to the flexible appearance, "ice ribbon" also has a major feature of low carbon, Zheng Fang introduced, the venue uses a full ice design, ice surface area of 12,000 square meters, is the world's first use of carbon dioxide direct cold ice winter Olympic speed skating venue. The use of carbon dioxide to make ice, the ice surface temperature difference can be controlled within 0.5 degrees Celsius, the smaller the temperature difference, the smoother the ice surface, the more uniform the hardness, the more conducive to sliding, is conducive to athletes to create good results. Because of this, the "Ice Ribbon" has always hoped to create the "fastest ice" in the history of the Winter Olympics. Carbon dioxide ice making technology has also further practiced the concept of "green Olympics" at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Zheng Fang also recommended the best punching point for the public to shoot the "ice ribbon". Outside, the Olympic Tower overlooks the "Ice Ribbon", the pedestrian bridge near Olin West Road in the Forest Park looks at the "Ice Ribbon"; inside the venue, the "Ice Ribbon" curtain wall and the dynamic architectural design scenes in the arena are all good places to take photos.
