Wakayama is a Japanese place name that belongs to a prefecture in the Osaka Metropolitan Area, namely Wakayama Prefecture.

Since the prison is a special place, shooting is generally not allowed, but this time it was finally allowed to shoot only the places where it was allowed. Before entering, you first need to fill out a form, and the prison does not allow individual interviews with prisoners.
What about accommodation here?
When they come in, each prisoner has a room of his own, and the bedding is neatly folded, because when he first enters the prison, the prisoners will train all kinds of basic life knowledge, including folding clothes and bedding. They sleep on the ground every day, in fact, people who know Japan know that most of the Japanese living habits are sleeping on the ground. In addition, there are TV sets in each room, and clean small tables, and the living conditions here are quite good.
So, what are the eating conditions?
The food here is made by the prisoners themselves, because cooking is also one of their usual jobs. Boiled tomato sauce, broccoli salad, ham sausage, etc., in addition to a variety of fish. It can be said that the food here is still very good. Usually, rice will be divided into three kinds of large, medium and small, do manual work to eat large bowls, generally sit and work to eat the middle bowl, if you are engaged in very easy work, it must be eating small bowls. The rice eaten by the prisoners was made from a mixture of rice and wheat. The facilities of the restaurant are also very good, just like the buffet of our star hotel outside, even the plates are very exquisite,
Like other prisons, it is necessary to work every day here, and of course, you will be paid a certain amount.
If you are physically good, you will be assigned to the laundry room to wash clothes, but the laundry room here is a large washing machine, which is fully automatic, and what needs to be done is nothing more than put the clothes into the washing machine, and after cleaning, then dry them one by one.
Most of the prisoners are engaged in clothing processing, each person has a sewing machine, doing the work of clothing assembly line. However, it is not as free as imagined here, even if you go to the toilet, you have to raise your hand to report it, and you can only leave the work after getting permission.
If you are good at cooking, you may be assigned to work in the kitchen, doing washing, cutting vegetables, and cooking every day.
In addition to the above work, you can also learn some skills here, such as haircuts, but the haircut work is generally some heavy criminals, at least the sentence time is relatively long, what to ask? This is because haircuts are not a simple matter and require long-term study, and if you only have a year or two of service and you are about to get out of prison just after learning, you will not be able to contribute to prison.
Most of the prisoners here are reluctant to tell their past, because it is a stain on their lives, and they are more willing to tell their dreams after prison than this. Among them, there is a prisoner who works as a haircut, when she was 20 years old, she was imprisoned here for smuggling, she has been here for ten years, and she has also obtained a qualification certificate as a beautician. Her wish is to open a beauty shop after she is released from prison, to open a beauty shop full of smiles, to live a stable and peaceful life, she also has two daughters, and when she mentions her daughter, she said that cutting her daughter's hair will make her feel very happy.
There was also a prisoner, an old man over half a hundred years old. She came in because she was taking a stimulant, and she said she had spent half of her life here, asking her the specific reason for her imprisonment, but she was reluctant to say it because the past seemed like a nightmare to it and she never wanted to talk about it again.
At 4:20 p.m., the prisoners finished their day's work and returned to their respective rooms. When they eat, several people can gather in a room, and this is the time when they are most relaxed, talking and laughing, so that it seems as if they are not in prison. After dinner, it was their free time, and a few well-connected cellmates would sit in their rooms and watch TV together. Among them, food and tourism programs are their favorites, and they discuss various topics about food and tourism while watching.
Secondly, each room has a small table of their own, and every night they take out their own books and write something, some of which they have learned here, and some of which are their reflections on prison life.
At 9 p.m., lights out. So the day in prison is over.
Every morning, the first thing to do is to call and round the room, where the prisoners look very kind, and it is not obvious on the outside that they are locked up here for some crime.
If you behave well here, you can also parole early before you get out of prison, which will shorten the time you live in prison. Before going out, the warden would say to them, "I hope you will not return to prison in the future, and I hope that you will continue to work hard as a member of a good society."
When asked what it was like for them to face life after they were released from prison, they felt longing but also full of uneasiness.
