Qingtian is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese, with 330,000 overseas Chinese in more than 120 countries and regions around the world. Over the past 300 years, Qingtian overseas Chinese have struggled to write a legendary history of overseas Chinese.

The Overseas Chinese History Exhibition Hall is a witness to the hundred-year history of overseas Chinese in Qingtian. In September 1993, the Qingtian Overseas Chinese History Museum was completed in Qingtian County, which is the earliest county-level overseas Chinese history museum built in China. In 2014, in order to prepare for the construction of the new Qingtian Overseas Chinese History Museum (hereinafter referred to as the "New Exhibition Hall"), Qingtian County set up an overseas Chinese historical material collection office to extensively collect and research overseas Chinese historical materials, and jointly carried out overseas Chinese history research with Zhejiang University, Jinan University, Wenzhou University, Suribia University and other universities in Italy.

"At the beginning of the construction of the new exhibition hall, we were left with only some historical materials stacked in sacks in the room, and we could only go to the countryside to investigate according to the clues, and slowly fill in the blanks." Yan Xiaohai, a staff member of the Overseas Chinese Historical Materials Collection Office, said that more than 20,000 copies of overseas Chinese historical materials have been collected, of which more than 800 copies are displayed in the new exhibition hall.

The new exhibition hall takes the emergence, development, growth, integration, return and datong series of developments of the Qingtian overseas Chinese group as the context, and is divided into six major parts of the world, opening up the foundation and expanding the industry, integration and win-win, the prosperity of the community, the feelings of the family and the country, and the "alliance" of overseas Chinese in the world, showing the history of overseas Chinese in Qingtian.

In addition to the Overseas Chinese History Exhibition Hall, the new exhibition hall also set up a café. "When we return home, we often come here to sit and sit, look at the old objects on display, chat, and drink coffee." Xu Songling, president of the Spanish World Association of Overseas Chinese and Ethnic Chinese Anti-Cults, said: This is a window for displaying the culture of overseas Chinese and is also the spiritual home of overseas Chinese in Qingtian.

Today, in addition to the new exhibition hall in the county seat, the window to display the history of overseas Chinese also extends to the countryside. Located in the building of the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese in Renzhuang Town, Qingtian County, the Renzhuang Overseas Chinese History Exhibition Hall is a professional exhibition hall of overseas Chinese historical materials integrating sound, electricity, video and physical objects, showing the road of overseas Chinese, the soul of overseas Chinese, and the light of overseas Chinese.

"Every document in the exhibition hall was learned by more than 30 of us who went door-to-door in the village to investigate, and the process of sorting out was very difficult." Yang Gengxi, chairman of the Renzhuang Town Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, said that at that time, he mobilized overseas Chinese in Renzhuang to help collect objects and donate old objects to the exhibition hall. Nowadays, the exhibition hall has become an important base for patriotic education for the younger generation of overseas Chinese.

Relying on the abundant resources of overseas Chinese, Qingtian County also supported key overseas Chinese townships and important departments involved in overseas Chinese to build five "overseas Chinese" theme pavilions, such as the "Overseas Chinese and Stone Carving" theme pavilion in Fangshan Township and the "Overseas Chinese and Qianzhuang" theme pavilion of the Qingtian Rural Commercial Bank Overseas Chinese Family.

Overseas Chinese Currency Museum, Overseas Chinese and Stone Sculpture Exhibition Hall, Overseas Chinese Heart to the Party, Home and Country Feelings Exhibition Hall... Walking into Longxian Village, Fangshan Township, which has the reputation of "United Nations Village", more than a dozen overseas Chinese series theme pavilions comprehensively display the characteristic culture of Longxian Village, and will also "store" strong nostalgia in the museum.

Overseas Chinese bring back passports, letters, suitcases and other items from overseas, as well as treasures such as Western-style buildings and souvenirs left by overseas Chinese who went abroad and returned to their roots, these are the precious memories of overseas Chinese.

An old house with a deep courtyard in Longxian Village, which retains the architectural style of Qingtian Qiao Township in the 1930s, was built by Wu Qiankui, an overseas Chinese living in Belgium at that time, when he was in his 50s.

"The architecture of this old mansion is a combination of East and West, the columns are made of wood, and the carvings on the pillars and ceiling are European-style." Wu Liqun, secretary of the party branch and director of the village committee of Longxian Village, said that after the renovation of Wu Qiankui's former residence in 2013, it became a local tourism "punch card".

It is understood that there are more than 20 similar European-style buildings in Qingtian, most of which were built in the 1920s and 1930s. The reason why these overseas Chinese buildings can be well preserved is that it reflects the nostalgia of overseas Chinese people and overseas Chinese.

"We have made a lot of efforts to protect and inherit the culture of overseas Chinese, and then plan to transform the Qingtian Stone Sculpture Museum into the Qingtian Overseas Chinese History Museum to display the collected historical materials on a larger platform." Yan Xiaohai said, "I hope that the museum can become the spiritual home of overseas Chinese in Qingtian, so that more overseas Chinese can hear the local sound, taste the nostalgia and feel the nostalgia in time."
