It is reported that the Malaysian Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) announced the results of the exterior design competition at the Bukit Chagar station in Johor Bahru, and the winning team took inspiration from two pairs of clenched wrists, and the architecture symbolized the far-reaching and friendly relationship between Singapore and Malaysia.

The winning entries will be the blueprint for the construction of Bukit Chaka Station.

The design, with the new soft relationship closely attached as the design concept, conceived the appearance of two buildings holding each other's wrists, and successfully stood out among 91 entries in Malaysia, taking away RM250,000 (about S$82,100) in prize money.

Combining modern and futuristic works, "The Integration of Two", the design is inspired by the long history, intertwining and centuries-old relationship between Singapore and Johor Bahru. After the completion of the project, the design team hoped to strengthen the connection between the two places through the New Joo Metro.

The exterior of the subway is designed like two wrists holding each other's wrists, with "The Spirit of Working Together".

The entire building is expected to be 16 storeys high, with the fourth floor serving as a customs, immigration and quarantine facility (CIQ).

The metro station is designed with glass roofs that can penetrate natural light and self-cleaning functions, which not only reduces future maintenance costs, but also uses lightweight composite materials on the periphery of the "wrist", which contributes to environmental sustainability.

The criss-cross design of the exterior also provides excellent visibility and increases air flow.

The Xinrou Metro is four kilometres long (2.7 km in Malaysia and 1.3 km in Singapore) and is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2026.

Passengers can take you from MTR Tonshen – East Shoreline North Station, across the Strait of Johor and the 25-metre-high elevated track to Johor Bjackah Station.

The metro project uses a medium-sized subway system, a single journey of about five minutes, and can carry 10,000 people in one direction per hour.
