Due to heavy rainfall on Thursday night, the Nassau County Health Department has issued a warning not to swim in the sea at 18 local beaches.
According to PIX11, officials said the warning will take effect Friday through 7 a.m. on Saturday due to heavy rainfall on Thursday night, and will continue to be monitored in the future, and will be extended if watery bacteria levels continue to rise.
The warning is generally a measure taken for beaches affected by rainwater runoff, which can affect water quality, leading to a sharp increase in bacterial levels.
The following beaches fall within warning range: Centre Island Sound, Creek Club in Ratin, Lattingtown Beach, Laurel Hollow Beach, Morgan Sound, North Hempstead Beach Park, Piping Rock Beach Club, Pryibil Beach, Ransom Beach, Theodore Roosevelt Beach, Sea Cliff Village Beach, Soundside Beach, Stehli Beach, Tappen Beach, Biltmore Beach Club, Hewlett Point Beach, Island Park Beach, Philip Healey Beach.
