What does "no echo, low echo, strong echo" mean in the inspection report?

We said in the article "Finding Thyroid Nodules, If There Are No These "Words" on the Report Sheet, There Is No Need to Be Too Nervous":

The internal echoes of the normal thyroid gland are moderate and evenly distributed. If the echo is uneven, it indicates uneven density of the thyroid parenchyma and diffuse lesions such as hyperthyroidism (mainly "Graves hyperthyroidism"), Hashimoto's thyroiditis, nodular goiter, and so on.

What does "no echo, low echo, strong echo" mean in the inspection report?

After reading it, many fans have sent private messages saying: What does it mean that there is no echo, low echo, and strong echo?

In order to facilitate everyone's understanding, today we will add the following part of the thyroid ultrasound report on detecting thyroid echoes.

Before distinguishing the meaning of no echo, low echo, and strong echo, we must first understand what the principle of ultrasound imaging is.

Ultrasound imaging is a technique that uses the interaction between the physical properties of ultrasonic waves and the acoustic properties of human organ tissues, sends and receives ultrasonic waves with probes, and then processes information, converts them into electrical signals, and finally converts them into images.

What does "no echo, low echo, strong echo" mean in the inspection report?

Clinically, according to the size of the internal acoustic impedance and acoustic impedance difference of the tissue, it is generally divided into no echo, low echo, high echo and strong echo.

Low echoes generally represent lesions that may be nodules, benign tumors, and malignant tumors;

Without echo, we clinically think of it as a liquid, or a manifestation of a cyst;

High echo is generally solid, such as adipose tissue;

Strong echoes are likely to be calcifications;

However, again, a single ultrasound feature is not enough to determine the good or bad of thyroid nodules, especially for some atypical nodules.

Therefore, when you see that there are more bad descriptions in the report, you do not have to panic, you can find a specialist doctor for consultation.
