The festival is an important event under the framework of the "2017 Greece-China Year of Cultural Exchange and Creative Industry Cooperation", and more Greek film masterpieces will meet with Beijing audiences at the China Film Archive during the year.
Greece is the birthplace of Western civilization and an important node of the "Belt and Road" in Europe. At the initiative of the leaders of the two countries, the China-Greece Year of Cultural Exchange and Creative Industry Cooperation was officially launched in April 2017. In order to enhance political mutual trust, deepen people-to-people friendship and promote strategic cooperation, many wonderful cultural activities are gradually unfolding in the two countries.
In addition to the glorious historical and cultural heritage, Greece, which is also an ancient civilization with China, has also bred many great film works. Directors Theo Angelopoulos and Micharis Kakoyanis are well-known film masters in the contemporary world film industry, who have won many awards at international film festivals and film festivals, and have also left a deep imprint on the memories of Chinese film fans.
In recent years, the Ministry of Culture of Greece has actively participated in Chinese film festivals, film festivals and film markets through the Greek Film Center and the Greek Film Archive, steadily promoting cultural exchange activities for China, and laying a good foundation for Chinese audiences to understand Greek films. Coinciding with the Year of Greek-Chinese Cultural Exchange and Creative Industry Cooperation, the holding of this Retrospective Exhibition of Greek Films will lead Chinese film fans to appreciate the representative works of Greek films in a more comprehensive, more professional and more in-depth manner, and deepen their understanding and love of Greek culture.
Yan Chengsheng first expressed his recognition of Greek films and his good wishes for this event, "Over the years, the development of Greece in the film field is admirable, and we have been deeply impressed by philosophical film stories and film genres with rich themes. It is believed that the successful holding of this film festival will become an important opportunity for Chinese people to feel Greek culture and taste the charm of Greek cities. ”
Yan Chengsheng delivered a speech
Coniordo also attaches great importance to this film festival, she believes that Chinese films and Greek films enjoy the same beautiful qualities: "While planting roots and long history and culture, we are committed to exploring innovation and sharing new technologies and stories with local audiences and international audiences." She stressed that the event opened up a multi-faceted long-term cooperative relationship between the film industries of the two countries. The cooperation is not only reflected in the mutual hosting of film festivals, but also deepens to the level of industrial trade and co-production support.
The new culture minister, a National Treasure actor from Greece, recited Safiris' poems at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece. At the end of her speech, she solemnly recommended the opening film of the festival to the Chinese audience, "Little England". This film is the representative work of Pandoli Fogari, an outstanding Greek contemporary director, telling a love tragedy with a strong marine flavor, showing the national culture and the change of the times through individual stories, and winning two awards at the 17th Shanghai International Film Festival Golden Jubilee Award for Best Film and Best Actress.
In addition to "Little England", more Greek film masterpieces will also be screened in the China Film Archive this year, including the masterpiece "Greek Mythology" trilogy by film master Micharis Kakoyanis.
