On September 30, 2021, the State Council agreed to establish Sanjiangyuan as the first batch of national parks. The pilot area of Sanjiangyuan National Park covers a total area of 123,100 square kilometers, involving the jurisdiction of the four counties of Zhiduo, Qumalai, Maduo, Zaduo and The Coco Xili Nature Reserve, with a total of 12 townships and 53 administrative villages. In the area, there are famous Mountains such as Kunlun Mountain, Bayankara Mountain, Tanggula Mountain, etc., which are long and horizontal, and glaciers are towering.

The beautiful and mysterious source of the three rivers, the snowfield is vast, there are many rivers, swamps and lakes, and there are 167 lakes with an area of more than 1 square kilometer, known as the "Chinese Water Tower" and "Asian Water Tower". The three major rivers of the Yangtze River, the Yellow River and the Lancang River originate from the same geographical wonder of the same region, and are presented to the world here. As an important ecological security barrier and plateau biological germplasm resource bank in China, its conservation value is of great significance to the whole country and even the world.

It is understood that since the pilot of the Sanjiangyuan National Park system, Qinghai Province has set up "one household and one post" ecological management and protection public welfare posts, a total of 17,211 herders have held certificates, and local herders have changed from ecological users to guardians. In addition, photographers, herders, drifting enthusiasts, Tibetan doctors... They also use their knowledge to guard every inch of the mountain and river ecology of the Three Rivers in a scientific and authentic way. As herdsman Tashi said in the documentary "Qinghai Our National Park": "Our past grazing and the present have undergone some changes, but this grassland has always been here, I hope that children have flowers, plants, animals to accompany them to grow up, and I hope that children can take care of yaks and small animals, this is the tradition and our hearts!" 」 (Source: Documentary "Qinghai Our National Park")
