During the Winter Olympics, when athletes or spectators walk into the National Speed Skating Hall, it is almost impossible to see the cameras in the venue. In the past, venues with tens of thousands of square meters and tens of thousands of seats may require dozens or even hundreds of surveillance cameras. With the help of the "Winter Olympics of Science and Technology", the National Speed Skating Hall has achieved 360-degree panoramic viewing angle and 640 million pixels of video surveillance with only two bionic compound eye cameras, realizing full-range, full-detail, full-time real-time and playback video surveillance, providing support for smart security, real-time command of the stadium, and smart low-carbon operation of the venue.

At the very top of the east and west stands of the National Speed Skating Hall, and at the high points on both sides of the outermost track in the interior, two 100 million-level pixel multi-eye cameras are hoisted here in a hoop manner, covering all the stands and competition venues like "sky eyes".

Tang Qirui, vice president of Xiaoyuan Perception, the supplier of the application technology of the Beijing Winter Olympics, introduced that the traditional video surveillance mainly covers the entire venue through multiple cameras, which is prone to problems such as discontinuity of the picture and inconsistent color sense. For example, when the monitoring object walks from one lens to the next lens, there may be problems such as monitoring blind spots and lack of coherence in the middle, and once there is a public safety issue, these defects will bring inconvenience to the work of forensics and traceability.

"With two 320-megapixel compound-eye perception cameras, the real-time picture can seamlessly cover the entire venue." Tang Qirui said. In the backstage system of the monitoring room, any corner of the venue and the seats at any point in time can be clearly seen.

According to the technical staff, the reason why these two cameras can achieve 360-degree panoramic and ultra-high-definition monitoring effects such as "Sky Eye" is mainly due to the credit of the billion-level pixel compound eye sensor and the reconstruction server. It is understood that it adopts a bionic structure similar to the insect compound eye, through the independent research and development of Magixoom compound eye imaging patent technology, can achieve panoramic macro perspective and close-up micro perspective of both ultra-high resolution video, with the characteristics of seeing farther, wider, and seeing clearer at the same time, filling the gap of long-distance, large-area scenes, ultra-high-definition surveillance.

In addition to seeing clearly and far, the application of this technology in the National Speed Skating Hall has also overcome the problem of making ultra-high-definition video "smart". At present, in scenarios such as punch card commuting and airport entrances, face recognition supported by artificial intelligence AI technology has been well known to the public. However, the cameras in these scenarios are often only one million pixels, and the amount of data that needs to be processed in AI calculations is small, and the related technology has been relatively mature. To achieve real-time AI computation in the 640 million pixels of the national speed skating hall camera system, it is equivalent to hundreds of times the amount of data under ordinary megapixel video.

"We have solved the computing power challenge faced by the AI computing of ultra-high-resolution cameras at low cost through embedded and rotary relay methods. This eliminates the need to set up many servers offline, and ai calculations for ultra-high-definition video can be realized. Jia Wei, founder of Xiaoyuan Perception, said. Nowadays, the system can calculate data such as the gathering of personnel in a certain division of the venue and the dynamic change of the number of people in the whole venue in real time to achieve intelligent security and provide data support for the intelligent operation of the stadium refrigeration system in real time.

For the audience, the ultra-high-definition camera also has an interesting "find yourself" function, which can project the faces of any seat in the field to the large screen of the scene. "Based on this feature and the ultra-high-definition panoramic video of 100 million pixels, the speed skating hall can explore more interesting interactive gameplay in the operation of the venue after the Winter Olympics." Jia Wei said.
