For the first time in China, the "Ancient Atlas of Bashu" was published

Red Star News Network (reporter Dan Tangwen) reported on January 26 that in order to preserve the long and important cultural heritage of the Bashu region, the Chengdu Municipal Geological Records Office launched the compilation of the "Ancient Atlas of Bashu". A few days ago, the first series of the "Ancient Atlas of Bashu" was compiled and officially published by the Bashu Book Society, which is the first comprehensive and systematic collection and collation of the ancient maps of Bashu in China.

The Bashu region has a long history of map compilation, and early maps such as the Bajun Tujing appeared during the Eastern Han Dynasty. During the Tang and Song dynasties, the mapping of the Bashu region has become a common practice, and a large number of excellent maps such as the "Chuanshan Road Map Classic", "Yongkang Army Map", "Shu Cheng Map" and so on have emerged, and the earliest existing Map of Bashu is the "Overview map of the Victory of Shuchuan" created by Li Gonglin of the Northern Song Dynasty in this period. From the Ming and Qing dynasties to the Republic of China, the number of Bashu maps was more abundant and the content was more comprehensive, especially the Bashu map in the late Qing dynasty and the Republic of China, which directly reflected the social transformation and changes of modern Bashu.

For the first time in China, the "Ancient Atlas of Bashu" was published

"The most difficult thing in the collation and research of the "Ancient Map of Bashu" is the comprehensive and systematic collection and collation of the ancient maps of Bashu." Yang Xiangfei of the Compilation Office of the Chengdu Local History Office told reporters that in the process of collection, the compilers mainly carried out two aspects of work: First, the collection of map materials, after years of unremitting efforts, invested a lot of manpower and material resources, from the hands of relevant libraries, museums, archives and private collectors at home and abroad, purchased or copied a large number of Maps of Bashu. These maps, ranging from a single old map to an atlas, are both hand-drawn and monochrome, and are considerable in number.

In addition, in the process of map collection, the compilers also attach great importance to the collection and collation of maps of Bashu that are now in various types of scriptures, histories, sub-documents, and collections, especially in the local chronicles of the past dynasties. According to the statistics of the "Chinese Local Chronicles United Eyes", there are about 700 kinds of old records in Bashu, including Sichuan Tongzhi, Prefecture, Prefecture, County, Township Chronicle and Rural Chronicle, ranking first among all provinces and cities in the country. "In these Fang Zhi, most of them are drawn with maps, and even in the National General Chronicle, there are maps of Bashu, and these maps are within the scope of collection." Yang Xiangfei told reporters.

Yang Xiangfei said that the value of the book is mainly reflected in three aspects: First, the value of literature is large. Most of the originals of the four maps included are orphan copies scattered in major libraries, and this is the first time they have been published. "Our office adopts the method of high-definition photocopying and reasonable arrangement, which not only retains the original appearance of the map, but also conforms to the reading habits of modern people, which is convenient for experts and scholars to study and use."

The second is to intuitively reflect the modern social transformation of the Bashu region. Since the end of the Qing Dynasty, the Bashu region has experienced an era of alternating the old and the new, and various new things have continued to emerge. This is also reflected in the map, such as the "Sichuan Provincial Government, Prefecture and County Patrol Police Area Map", reflecting the modernization and transformation of the modern Sichuan police system; in the "Sichuan Province Prefecture Directly Subordinate to the Department of Prefecture Map", there are special maps on railways, postal services, geology and mines, etc., and the modernization characteristics are very obvious. These maps are intuitive materials for understanding the social transformation of modern Bashu.

The third is to help build the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle. In the "Detailed Map of Sichuan Counties", "Map of the Prefectures Directly Subordinate to the Prefectures of Sichuan Province", and "Map of Sichuan Prefectures and Counties", the information about the chengdu-Chongqing ancient post road and the mountains, towns, monuments, and post stations along the route is extremely detailed, which is of great practical significance for further excavating the historical and cultural resources of the ancient post road, building a Chongqing tourism corridor, and building a Chongqing twin-city economic circle.
