The cycle of "nineteen years and seven leaps", also known as "leap week", is calculated by the ancients with great painstaking efforts, because the nineteen-year cycle is really a bit long relative to the life span of the ancients, and the conditions for the ancients to observe the celestial phases are really limited. Even so, some scholars believe that around the Spring and Autumn Period, the ancient Chinese began to implement the leap week of "nineteen years and seven leaps".
Of course, this is not a most accurate leap week. Beiliang Zhao used "600 years 221 leaps", and the textbook old acquaintance Zu Chongzhi pushed this accuracy to "391 years 144 leaps". However, with the continuous improvement of the accuracy of the "return year" and "Wangshuo Moon", it has led to successive astronomers gradually abandoning their attachment to the "leap week". Because these three are a mutually restrictive relationship, only the leap week is artificially set, and the celestial movement is not as simple as imagined at the beginning. Later, Zhang Zixin of Northern Qi found that the speed of the earth's rotation was actually fast and slow, that is, "after the spring equinox of the day, it is late, and after the autumn equinox, it is fast", which means that the interval between solar terms is not the same long. This discovery is about the same as declaring "Barbie Q, the original things of the calendar have to be recalculated." The original algorithm is called "flat gas method", and the new algorithm is called "fixed gas method" according to the angle. The method of fixing gas began to be used by Liu Zhuo in the Sui Dynasty, but it was not officially adopted until the "Shi Xian Calendar" in the early Qing Dynasty.

Because although the calendar was born in astronomy, it is implemented in life, and the overly complex setting will affect people's production and life. For example, Zu Chongzhi's calculation is not the most accurate, more accurate is "315 years and 116 leaps", but this is too long for a person's life, just like the first discovery of the "definite gas method", the astronomer who formulated the calendar knows this is enough.
For us, to understand the value of "nineteen years and seven leaps" is that if you find any coincidence between the date of the lunar calendar and the Gregorian calendar, then there will still be 19 years of pushing back and forth, such as the 19th birthday, you can spend the Gregorian calendar together, if you miss the 19th year, then there are 38 years old, 57 years old, 76 years old, 95 years old, 114 years old...
