A few days ago, the 2021 Guangdong Migratory Bird Protection Action was officially launched. The event aims to call on the general public, volunteers and social organizations to participate in the protection of migratory birds and contribute to the protection of migratory bird habitats and migration routes.
With the arrival of a new round of migratory birds in winter, Shenzhen and other parts of Guangdong have ushered in various migratory bird populations. Up to now, in addition to the egret, pond heron and other resident birds, Shenzhen has welcomed more than 20 species of migratory birds such as black-faced spoonbills, black-tailed sandpipers, red-footed sandpipers, black-winged long-legged sandpipers, golden-spotted sandpipers, white-browed ducks, green-winged ducks, crested diving ducks, etc. As an important migratory bird migration and wintering resting place in the world, the back bays of Shenzhen and Hong Kong have built a good regional biodiversity conservation, providing a comfortable habitat for 100,000 birds such as herons, ducks, gulls, and sandpipers every year.
This year is the third year that Guangdong has launched the migratory bird protection operation. In accordance with the regulations of the provincial government prohibiting the hunting of wild birds for 5 years, the forestry departments in all localities will strictly implement the patrol and protection of migratory bird breeding sites, migratory stops, relocation and flight passages and other wildlife swarm activity areas, promptly clean up all kinds of illegal hunting tools, increase law enforcement supervision, encourage the reporting of illegal and criminal acts that damage wild animal and plant resources, and standardize artificial breeding and business utilization.
This year's flight protection action will also jointly carry out synchronous investigation and protection of rare water birds such as black-faced spoonbills in 11 cities in the province, including Shenzhen, during which information such as the species, number, and habitat of all wild birds will be recorded and investigated.
At the same time, the forestry department advocates civilized bird watching by citizens, controls "abduction and photography" behavior, including prohibiting unauthorized entry into nature reserves for bird watching and bird shooting, resolutely banning "shed photography" suspected of illegally catching wild birds and illegal artificial breeding of birds, prohibiting "fishing-style abduction" such as feeding behaviors that have a risk of injury to birds and may lead to changes in migration rules and residence habits, and prohibiting the capture and control of "kidnapping and abduction" of young birds.
