Official: Watford manager Ranieri leaves

Watford announced that Claudio Ranieri is no longer the club's manager.

The 70-year-old Ranieri coached Watford for his last game on Friday night local time, losing 3-0 at home to Norwich. Watford are currently second-to-last in the Premier League, scoring 14 points in 20 games.

Official: Watford manager Ranieri leaves

Watford's official statement said: "The club board considers Claudio to be a man of great integrity and a sense of honour who will always be respected at the Vecarage Road Stadium as his efforts in leading the team deserve respect. ”

"However, the board is of the view that with half of the Premier League remaining on the schedule this season, changing the manager now gives the new manager enough time to work together to achieve the immediate goal of Premier League relegation."

"The club will not comment further until the appointment of the new manager is confirmed."

Ranieri led Leicester city to the 2015/16 Premier League title, where he succeeded Sisko Muñoz in early October 2021, when Watford were 15th after two premier league wins in seven games.

Watford's next game is against relegation rival Burnley on 5 February.
