Mannight: Rice is a prime target for United's summer window signings The Red Devils want to identify an official manager this season

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United will sign midfielders in this summer window, and they are keen to sign Rice.

United have admitted that midfield is the biggest problem in their squad, so the team wants to sign midfielders in the summer window. United still have a week to go through the winter window to reinforce, but signing new signings is simply unlikely as they have a bloated squad of 29 players.

The club are finalizing their summer window target list, with midfield being identified as a priority signing position. United have always wanted to sign Rice, and the West Ham midfielder asked Maguire and Luke Shaw about United at the England national team last year.

With Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Pogba and Juan Mata leaving at the end of their contracts in June, United are also expected to look for an attacking midfield in the market. Lonnick had already asked Haaland's father if haaland could join the team. With Bailly and Phil Jones likely to be sold in the summer, Wan Bissaka's attacking prowess has been criticized, so United are also interested in signing Trippier. While Brighton defender Lamptey is linked to Manchester United, Tottenham are a potential next home for Brighton defenders.

If Dean Henderson is allowed to leave in the summer, United will bring in a substitute goalkeeper. In addition, United are looking to appoint their official manager before the end of the season, and the club wants to avoid the chaos of the situation that moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

United's plans will be affected by whether they enter Europe this season, with United's dramatic victory over West Ham on Saturday and the Reds returning to the top four for the first time since 16 October. Some players are in talks with the club as they risk leaving on loan before next week's transfer deadline – including Henderson, Martial, Jesse Lingard and Van der Beek.

Sevilla's offer to loan Martial has been rejected, and United also turned down Newcastle's invitation to Jesse Lingard last week. Van der Beek has been recommended to Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund but is expected to stay as well, while Dean Henderson is still pushing for a transfer and Ajax wants to sign the goalkeeper.
