Second Life is an online game launched by Philip Rosedale in 2003, one of the first virtual world games, which provides high-level social networking services on the basis of an ordinary metaverse. As the "residents" of the virtual community, the player can operate virtual buildings with a three-dimensional sense, participate in group activities, engage in "economic activities", and even trade virtual property.
Although the concept of metaverse has been proposed as early as the 90s, "Second Life" has further established the foundation for the application and development of metaverse, and is known as the "pioneer" of metaverse. However, the computing equipment and network technology at that time were not perfect, so it was difficult for "Second Life" to form a sufficient market scale.
It is reported that Rosedale is optimistic about the ability of "Second Life" to build a virtual world, believing that this SOCIAL PLATFORM in the form of a PC has more potential than the VR meta-universe promoted by companies such as Meta, which can carry millions of users at the same time, and the cumulative number of registered users of "Second Life" has exceeded 70 million.
Rosedale said in an interview that he will return to Linden Lab as a strategic advisor and lead the company to expand as it gains more attention and appeal. Philip Rosedale expects to upgrade Second Life and attract younger users with better avatars and other images, and also plans to adjust the economic model in Second Life so that the virtual world can do everything that the real world can't achieve, or recreate everything in the real world.
Rosedale is already considering the development of the mobile terminal "Second Life", and as for whether "Second Life" will accept new meta-universe concepts like NFTs and some interoperability content, Rosedale is still skeptical.
