Villagers in Shanglin Village told Jimu News that the suspect Ou Mouzhong and the victim were neighbors and had disputes for many years. Ou Mouzhong's relatives said in an interview with the media that before the incident, the local encountered strong windy weather, and a piece of iron sheet built by Ou Mouzhong's family was blown into the vegetable field of the neighbor's family, for which the other party has been insulting Ou Mouzhong. "The first time, Ou Mouzhong did not answer the call, he went home, who knew that his (victim's) family then came back and had been insulting him, which may have caused the resentment that he had accumulated for many years to suddenly erupt, which led to this extreme situation."
Ou Mouzhong's wife Ou Mouxiang introduced that in 2016, they applied to the township planning and construction department, the township land and resources department, the Pinghai Town People's Government, and the Xiuyu District People's Government to build a new house on the original site and got consent.
Around September 2019, after the old houses were all demolished, when they were ready to build a new house, two neighbors came to obstruct it, on the grounds that the land occupied by the old house of Ou's family was their family's, so ou's family was not allowed to build a house. Later, he complained to the mayor's hotline 12345, the town discipline inspection committee, the district bureau of letters and visits, etc., but it has not been resolved, the house has not been built, and the family of six can only squeeze in a simple shed.
The village director of Shanglin Village also said that the suspect and the victim's family have been in disputes for many years over the construction of the house, and the mediation of the village committee has been fruitless many times.
