Chinese girl trapped in India: Only 4 people in the company are non-positive

As of yesterday, India's epidemic data showed that more than 300,000 new cases were added in a single day for many consecutive days, with a cumulative death rate of 208,330 cases, and the total number of confirmed cases rose to 18762976 cases, and India, where the epidemic broke out again, became the focus of the world's attention.

What are Chinese still living in India going through?

We interviewed Li Xiaoming, a "post-90s" Chinese girl who works and lives in the hardest-hit area of Delhi. She told us that most of the Chinese around her have returned to China; the infection rate in the company has soared from 10% last year to 90% this year; and Chinese companies in India are still actively raising funds for hospitals.

The following is Li Xiaoming's self-statement.

Infected people mostly self-isolate

I work for a Chinese internet company in Delhi. He came to India in 2018 and is usually mainly active in Delhi and Gurgaon.

India's wave of the epidemic mainly occurred in large cities, Delhi is one of the hardest hit areas, Gurgaon is a satellite city of New Delhi, the economic boom, known as "India's New York".

Our company organized a nucleic acid test for all employees in September last year, when only 1-2 of the more than 100 people were positive. In March this year, because of the company's layoffs, a total of 30 or 40 employees were left, and only 4 people were non-positive, and the infection rate changed from 10% to 90%.

At the end of March, things started to go wrong, with people on Twitter saying that I was seriously ill, and I could always hear ambulances on the street.

I'm close to my Indian friends and colleagues, and at least one person in every family has covid-19. In India, many extended families live together, with children's families and parents' families.

Most of the infected people self-isolate at home, take their own medicine to reduce fever, and only those who have serious symptoms such as breathing difficulties will go to the hospital, because now when they go to the hospital, the risk of cross-infection is also very large.

Self-healing is entirely your own responsibility, not like someone in the domestic community staring at you to take your temperature.

But the mentality of the infected people around them is very good, and they feel that it is better not to become seriously ill, and it is also good to isolate themselves.

The infection mainly affects the people at the bottom. Although the outbreak of the epidemic mainly occurred in the middle class and the upper middle class, those who could afford it flew to Dubai, maldives and the United Kingdom to take refuge, and the middle class could also work and live at home. For people with poor economic conditions, it is easier to fall into despair when infected with the new crown, it is difficult to go out to work, it is difficult to do small business, and it is even more difficult to get sick again.

In the case of vaccines, India's policy is to let priority groups such as medical workers, frontline workers, and people over 45 years old be hit first. However, on the 19th of last month, the government said that from May 1, all adults over the age of 18 can be vaccinated.

The parents of my friends around me have basically been vaccinated, but I heard that some of them are still infected after the beating. I myself was vaccinated when I returned home.

Chinese-funded enterprises organize fundraising

Chinese I know have basically returned home.

Since April last year, the Indian government has successively introduced various restrictive policies for Chinese companies, and in June, the Indian government banned 59 Chinese apps for security reasons.

Because of India's crackdown on Chinese Internet companies, the number of Chinese in India has dropped sharply. At its peak a year or two ago, every time I went to a Chinese restaurant to eat, I could encounter several tables of Chinese, and now it is difficult to meet again.

Since March and April, there have been Chinese friends around me who have begun to return to China, especially in the Internet industry and the financial industry. Last year, the embassy also organized several charter flights to return to China, and some people have successively transferred their own planes to return home. This outbreak, many people rushed back before the lockdown in Delhi, and now I only know one or two Chinese are still in India, basically engaged in the physical or manufacturing industry.

During the epidemic period, our company purchased masks for employees to ensure that they could be replaced every day, and the office was disinfected regularly. I learned that some central enterprises will purchase Lianhua Qing plague capsules or anti-fever drugs from China and distribute them to employees, and Chinese employees and Indian employees are treated equally.

Although in January and February last year, when the epidemic in China was more serious, India also banned the export of masks and other medical supplies to China, but this time the epidemic in India broke out again, and Chinese-funded enterprises were still more humanitarian.

In the WeChat group, I watched some Chinese-funded companies organize fundraising to help hospitals purchase medical supplies. Everyone hopes to do their part to help India tide over the difficulties, after all, only when the epidemic recovers, Chinese companies can continue to do business.

Delhi is locked down but can still go out

On April 19, Delhi began to impose a lockdown, except for the purchase of daily necessities, medical treatment and other necessary activities, people are not allowed to go out; supermarkets, pharmacies, grocery stores and other places selling necessities, all closed, restaurants can only provide takeaway; subway, bus and other public transportation is closed, taxis and private cars can also run, but need to go to the government website to apply for a pass. But there are no rules for walking, and wanting to go out to buy something doesn't actually have much impact.

Big cities such as Delhi and Bangalore are usually crowded with people and traffic jams are very serious, and now the flow of people on the streets of Delhi has decreased significantly, but there are still people walking around outside.

Indian states have different policies, such as Gurgaon and India's richest state of Maharashtra, which has imposed curfews, lockdowns and other restrictions.

Indians may have become accustomed to lockdowns, with Delhi having already sealed once at the end of March last year. Because of the experience of lockdown, the government can also ensure the supply of medical supplies such as daily necessities and masks.

India has a distribution platform like domestic hema fresh, dingdong, hungry mo, takeaway express is still running, the middle class can stay at home can also work and live in isolation, but the poor have to go to the street to do takeaway delivery work in order to survive, and small stalls selling vegetables are still open.

I have been isolated at home for two weeks at present, working online, life has takeaway and express delivery can also be guaranteed, but the platform delivery time has a significant delay, the original next day can be delivered, now it may take three or five days to deliver, I want to buy some of the Chinese food is out of stock.
