Yan Baohang – The unsung hero of the hidden front, a top-secret piece of intelligence that indirectly led to Japan's surrender

It is well known that in times of war, agents fighting on hidden fronts face a very high risk factor. In our Party, there are many such outstanding and outstanding agents, who, with their outstanding personal ability, made outstanding contributions to China during the war years. Among them was a little-known agent, and even Xu Enzeng, the head of the Central Committee, and Dai Kasa, the head of the military command, had to look up to him; he was a "special person" who maintained a single line of contact with Premier Zhou; he was clearly a high-ranking Kuomintang official, but in fact he was an excellent agent of our party on the hidden front; he shuttled between the top level of the Kuomintang and the international dignitaries like a fish, and he obtained a large amount of intelligence over the past decade or so, and he never revealed his identity; he was a legendary figure on the hidden front of our party. Yan Baohang, a Chinese strategic intelligence expert.

After this, Yan Baohang also actively participated in organizing revolutionary groups such as the "Wednesday Meeting" and the "Qiming Society" to jointly study the road to saving the country and the people. Yan Baohang also organized a vigorous demonstration in Shenyang in support of the May Thirtieth Movement. In 1927, Yan Baohang, then director general of the Fengtian YMCA, applied to join the party, but there was no result due to the interruption of contact.

After the "918" incident, Yan Baohang took refuge in Beiping under makeup and organized it here

"Northeast People's Anti-Japanese Salvation Congress"

In the National Salvation Congress, Yan Baohang served as a member of the Standing Committee and political minister, often busy running for the sake of resisting Japan and saving the country, and prepared some clothes and money to help the Northeast Volunteer Army resist Japan. Yan Baohang's outstanding organizational and diplomatic skills were discovered and appreciated by Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling, and he successively held important positions in the "Four-Dimensional Society" and the "New Life Movement", and under Chiang Kai-shek's appointment, he became a member of the Military Commission and a "red man" around Chiang Kai-shek.

In 1937, Yan Baohang co-organized the "Northeast Anti-Japanese Salvation Association" with Gao Chongmin, Liu Yubo and others in Shanghai Baxian Bridge, and was elected as a standing committee member, serving as the chairman of the relief committee, and was led by the Northern Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. In September of the same year, Yan Baohang secretly joined the Communist Party in Nanjing through Premier Zhou and Liu Tanbo as the introducers to the party, and after approval by the central government, he secretly joined the Communist Party and entered the hidden front from then on, and was directly led by Premier Zhou, code-named "Yan Zheng". However, because of the needs of his work, he could only engage in the work of resisting Japan and saving the country as a "democratic person" and a "non-party personage". Relying on his excellent intelligence understanding, Yan Baohang has obtained a lot of confidential information for our party many times under the eyes of Dai Kasa, the head of the military command.

One of the most valuable pieces of intelligence

In the autumn of 1944, Yan Baohang once again completed an extremely dangerous and important intelligence mission.

At that time, the Japanese army had begun to retreat, and only its elite unit, the Japanese Kwantung Army, was still struggling in the northeast. As everyone knows, the Kwantung Army is Japan's ace army, it is the most elite unit in the Japanese invading army, this unit is the strongest in combat effectiveness of the Japanese army, and the weapons and equipment are also well equipped. If we can find out the deployment of troops in the Kwantung Army, it will be of great strategic significance to our Party's anti-Japanese resistance and the Soviet side.

Therefore, after receiving this task, Yan Baohang also really made a lot of hard work, and after unremitting efforts, Yan Baohang finally learned a situation:

The intelligence personnel of the Kuomintang side have obtained the relevant information on this mission and stored it in the third department of the Central Military Commission, the core organ of the National Government.

Subsequently, Yan Baohang found an old friend, and through his matchmaking, Yan Baohang began frequent contacts with Niu Xianming, then deputy director of the Third Department of the Central Military Commission. During this time, Yan Baohang received a secret mission from the Kuomintang Chen Cheng to find out whether Japan would launch an attack on the Soviet Union. Yan Baohang just took advantage of this opportunity to do the work of Niu Xianming and finally got all the information. After receiving this information, Yan Baohang immediately reported to Premier Zhou and handed it over to the Soviet Embassy in time, and the Soviet army returned it to Yan Baohang after taking pictures, and then Yan Baohang returned it to Niu Xianming unchanged, so that this figure was successfully completed.

On August 9, 1945, 1.5 million Soviet Red Army marched to northeast China to fight the final decisive battle with the Japanese army, and it was precisely with this information that recorded the strategic deployment, weapons, arms, and general lists of the Kwantung Army in detail, that the Soviet Red Army took only one week to crush the Kwantung Army, which is known as the "Flower of the Imperial Army", and the Japanese Emperor had to publicly announce unconditional surrender all over the world.
