This month, on Interstate 95 in Miami-Dade County, a Florida highway patrol officer was caught on camera rescuing a suffocating toddler. Recently released driving camera video showed Mounted Police Officer Reginald Mathieu seeing a horrific scene: three cars parked on the edge of an interstate and several people surrounding the family on the ground. They were holding an unconscious 1-year-old girl.

A well-meaning passerby tried to treat the child with a choking device from a "life-saving capsule", but she did not respond.

MountEder Matthew wasted no time. He began to beat the toddler back until she regained consciousness. As a precautionary measure, the girl was then taken to a nearby hospital, FHP said. This is what happened on Oct. 16 in the southbound lane of I-95 along Southwest Seventh Street.

The FHP said Matthew was working on a crash in the area at the time when the child's parents motioned for him to stop. It's unclear how long the girl was unconscious, or what she choked on.

The video of the incident, which was posted on Twitter by FHP on Sunday, has garnered more than 35 million views, and people thank the mounted policeman for what he did, calling him a hero.
