The Hunger Games 3: Mockingbird (Part 2) poster
<b>Last</b> weekend, the North American film market ushered in the first heavyweight blockbuster after the end of the summer program - "Hunger Games: Mockingbird (Part 2)", which is the finale of the "Hunger Games" series. Lionsgate's film, based on the teen novel of the same name, was disappointed in its first weekend, earning just $101 million over three days over the weekend, the worst start in the series and failing to meet expectations.
The film debuted only fifth among films released this year, after Jurassic World ($209 million), Avengers: Age of Ultron (191 million), Fast & Furious 7 (147 million) and Minions (115 million).
Sony's secret agent action blockbuster "007: Ghost Party" was greatly affected, and the film's third weekend was recoiled at $14.6 million, down nearly 60%, and the cumulative box office exceeded $150 million.
Blue Sky Studios' new animated film "Snoopy: The Peanuts Movie" fell to the third place of the weekend, and the film made another $12.8 million over the weekend, about to break through the $100 million mark.
Sony's bad boy comedy "The Night Before" was screened in up to 3,000 theaters, earning only $10.1 million in three days.
The crime suspense film "Enigmatic Eyes", released by STX and adapted from the Argentine film of the same name, although it won two Oscars, Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman, only collected $6.6 million in the first three days, which was a poor performance.
After this year's awards season's hit "Spotlight" was expanded by Blazing Pictures to 598 theaters, it rose 166% from the previous weekend and collected $3.6 million at the weekend, breaking into the top ten of the weekend list and ranking eighth.
Stills from Carol
One of the most popular films of this year's awards season, the lesbian drama "Carol", starring Kate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, started in four theaters, earning $248,000 on weekends and $62,000 in a single library. Of all the films of this year, the single-museum performance is second only to "Steve Jobs" and "Border Killer". Based on the novel of Patricia Haysmith, author of the original novel "Genius Ripley", the film received super high praise, with a 93% praise rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 95-point rating from the right media.

<b>The Hunger Games 3: Mockingbirds (Part 2) – The Youth Science Fiction Series Comes to an End</b>
Stills from The Hunger Games 3: Mockingbird (Part 2).
The performance of the teenage novel adaptation as the hottest genre outside of the current superhero movies seems to have entered a bottleneck period this year. The box office and word-of-mouth of the two popular sequels "Divergent: Jedi Strike Back" and "Moving Maze 2" have declined to varying degrees compared with the previous works. Of course, we can't arbitrarily say that the wave of novel adaptations triggered by Harry Potter and Twilight has declined, after all, the "big sister" "Hunger Games" of today's teen novel adaptations has not yet spoken. But now, we seem to have come to a conclusion. While the word-of-mouth of The Hunger Games 3: Mockingbirds (Part 2) picked up slightly, its box office decline even exceeded that of Divergent 2 and Maze Runner 2.
The Hunger Games 3: Mockingbirds (Part 2) is the finale of a film based on the film adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name by American author Susan Collins, and is the second half of the film based on the original novel. Released a year ago, "The Hunger Games 3: Mockingbirds (Part 1)" grossed $122 million in its first three days and ended up grossing $337 million, making it the highest-grossing film in North America in 2014. I expected "Mockingbird (Part 2)" to be able to rise from the previous two films, even if it did not reach the height of the first two films, with the help of the finale effect. At present, it seems that this hope has been completely disappointed, and the film will create the lowest box office of the series without suspense.
Mockingbird (Part 2) is still released by Lionsgate, and the two previous works in the series, Francis Lawrence, together with Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcheson, Liam Hemsworth and other original people, returned en masse. The fictional Shi Huiguo in the film is now in full-scale war, and Katniss will confront President Snow at the last minute. Accompanied by friends such as Gayle, Finnick, and Pita, Katniss and the thirteenth ward squad ventured to liberate the people of the Favored Nation, and plotted assassinations of President Snow, who was increasingly obsessed with killing her. Katniss will face deadly pitfalls, rivals and moral choices, none of which ever appeared in the Arena of the Hunger Games.
Mockingbird (Part 2) made $16 million in advance sales thursday night, down $1 million from Mockingbird (Part 1), the lowest in the series. Earning $45.98 million on Friday at the largest screening size of the series in 4,175 theaters ( including Thursday's advance show ) , the film easily won the single-day title. But that was 16.5 percent lower than the previous game's $55 million-plus first-day score. The film collected another $33.75 million on Saturday, more than $7 million lower than the same day as Mockingbird. Referring to the trend of the previous games in the series, the film is expected to earn only $101 million in three days of painting, which will be the worst opening result of the "Hunger Games" series. The opening result was more than $20 million lower than the "Mockingbird (Part 1)," which was released last year, and was only about two-thirds of the series' highest record.

The main reason why the film did not start as expected was to change a weak original book into two films with insufficient content, which discouraged some passers-by. Considering that the competition faced by the film in the next few weeks is much greater than that of the previous game, the film's North American breakthrough of 300 million is an impossible task, and it is optimistic that its final landing point will be around $280 million. The film's production cost was $215 million in North America, but overseas rights sales exceeded the previous game's $130 million. From the perspective of profit interests, Lionsgate's revenue generated after splitting the film into two films is indeed much higher than that of one film.
The film also regressed at the box office in overseas markets, earning $146 million in its first week overseas, which is even less than the $154 million of "Mockingbird (Part 1)" under the premise of opening more markets. At present, the film's global box office will certainly not exceed the first "Hunger Games", becoming the worst in the entire series.
63% of the film's audience is female, and more than half of the group over 25 years old, reaching 52%. Like the previous film, this film also got an "A-" in the Cinema Score, which is not as good as the "A" of the first two films. The popcorn index of the film is 78%, and the reputation of passers-by audiences is average.
Media film reviews have rebounded slightly from the previous game, and only 71% of the 190 media outlets on Rotten Tomatoes have given the film a positive review, with an average score of 6.4. MetaCritic, an authoritative media review website, included an average score of 65 points for 43 media outlets.
<b>Chicago Sun:</b> Mockingbird (Part 2) is a dark and psychedelic, violent and bizarre journey. As a poorly balanced ending film, it seems to be a good match for an already strange series. (75/100)
<b>Entertainment Weekly: The</b> constant rival political forces and countless casualties in the film give the film a deep, dark tone. The film is not like a teen entertainment film, but rather like a "hungry version" of "Game of Thrones". (67/100)
<b>"ReelViews":</b> A year ago, "Mockingbird (Part 1)" appeared disjointed and incomplete, and although this "Lower Part" was more perfect, the rhythm was still unbalanced, creating a feeling that the series had dragged on for too long. (63/100)
<b>The Washington Post:</b> Much of the thrill of Mockingbird (Part 2) comes from watching Lawrence perform, not the story. Her goal is clear, even if the film's story is protracted and the narrative rhythm is unstable. (63/100)
<b>"The Night Before" – A restrictive holiday comedy that starts out gently</b>
<b>"Enigmatic Eyes" - the remake lost word of mouth and the box office was weak</b>
Poster of "The Night Before"
The other two large-scale films of the weekend that performed slightly better were sony's restricted comedy The Night Before. The film stars Seth Rogan, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Anthony McKay, and is directed by Jonathan Levine, who directed "Warm Corpse" and "The Cancer Fighter." The film's first weekend income barely exceeded ten million US dollars, and the start was warm.
The night before takes place in Christmas New York, where three die-hard parties (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogan, and Anthony McKay) get together every year, but this year everything has changed, and this may be the last time they spend Christmas together. The three then start a Christmas party marathon, trying to find the "Holy Grail" they want.
"The Night Before" began landing in 2,960 theaters in North America on Friday and earned $3.6 million that day, including $550,000 the film received in advance on Thursday night. The film's opening day results ranked third in a single day, and the performance was average.
The film closed another $3.85 million on Saturday, up 7 percent from Friday, and the increase was not bad in its genre. Sony expects the film to close another $2.65 million on Sunday, bringing its opening weekend to $10.1 million, only fourth on the weekend. This score is less than half of the $20.72 million of "The End of the World" in the 2013 summer season. The film's final North American performance should be able to cross the $25 million cost line, but to be profitable, you need to hope for performance in overseas markets.
The film's cinema audience rating was "A-", and the audience had a good reputation. The film was rated as a passing level, with 97 media outlets with a freshness rating of 64% on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average score of 6, while the right media collection site MetaCritic included 27 media outlets with a score of 58.
<b>"Variety":</b> Seth Logan's drunken and insane performance is the blood of the whole film, providing the film with an element of joy; the indulgence between close friends brings the film the energy of arrogance. (70/100)
<b>"RogerEbert.com":</b> The film is a well-intentioned comedy, full of laughs and many failures. Seth Logan and the other lead actors somehow make them pleasing, and the supporting characters are brilliant. (63/100)
<b>The Guardian:</b> Surprisingly, the closing part of this kind of watched-and-forget movie is a bit touching through various flashbacks and confrontations. (60/100)
"Enigmatic Eyes" poster
The last large-scale film to open last weekend was stex's crime mystery film Enigmatic Eyes. The film is a remake of the Argentine film of the same name, which won the 2009 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In terms of box office, the ah version of "Enigmatic Eyes" achieved a good result of $34 million worldwide at a cost of about $2 million.
The American version of "Enigmatic Eyes" is directed by Billy Ray, director of "To Cover up", and co-starring two Oscar actresses Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman and black actress Chevat Edgar Ford. The story of the film is largely adapted from the original version, telling the story of FBI agent Ray (Chevat Egart), Jessie (Julia Roberts) and district attorney Claire (Nicole Kidman) who were originally invincible trio, until Jessie's daughter was brutally raped and killed, and the peaceful life was completely shattered. Thirteen years later, Ray finally discovered the breakthrough clue behind the murder, but the truth is far more than solving the case.
The film began reaching 2,392 theaters in North America on Friday and grossed $2.31 million on that day (including $170,000 on Thursday night). This result is only ranked fifth in a single day, and the performance is poor. The film closed another $2.62 million on Saturday, up 13 percent from Friday, a fair increase. The film expects the film to close for another $1.7 million on Sunday, bringing its opening weekend to $6.6 million, ranking fifth on the weekend. Although the film opened slightly lower than expected, the film cost less, and distributor STX only spent $6.5 million to buy the distribution rights to the film, which should not be a big problem.
The film's cinema audience rating received a "B-", and the audience reputation was average. The media evaluation of the film is also mostly negative, with the Rotten Tomatoes website including only 42% of the freshness of 76 media, with an average score of 5.6; the right media collection website MetaCritic including 23 media scored 46 points, far lower than the original version of 80 points.
<b>Audiovisual Club:</b> This remake really doesn't bring any fresh feeling, it seems unnecessary. Basically the same movie as the original, it seems redundant. (58/100)
<b>Los Angeles Times:</b> As a screenwriter, Billy Ray's adaptation of the original story was flattering; but as a director, his directing style didn't change. (50/100)
<b>TheWrap:</b> The film has a lot of interesting ideas and a lot of impressive shots, but they're less interesting when combined. (50/100)
The list of old films detailed: "007: Ghost Party" fell sharply
Stills from 007: Ghost Party
Sony's secret agent blockbuster "007: Ghost Party" cut to 3,659 theaters last weekend after cutting down 270 theaters and collecting another $14.6 million over three days over the weekend. Hit by The Hunger Games 3 (Part 2), the film plunged 57% from the previous weekend and fell to the weekend runner-up. Daniel Craig starred in the 24th 007 series, which has a cumulative three-week total of $153.7 million. According to the current trend analysis, the film wants to cross the $200 million mark and needs to maintain a lower decline in the coming weeks. In mainland China, "Ghost Party" also fell by as much as 75% the following weekend, with a cumulative box office of nearly 500 million yuan. At present, the total global box office of "Ghost Party" has climbed to $678 million, and eventually there is still hope that the world will close at about $900 million.
Fox's latest work, Blue Sky Animation Studios, "Snoopy: The Peanut Movie," was cut to 3,671 theaters over the weekend, dropping 47 percent from the previous weekend and closing at $12.8 million, falling to third place over the weekend. The holiday comedy "Big Love Coop Family", co-produced by Lionsgate and CBS Pictures, remained screened in 2603 theaters the following weekend, and closed another $3.93 million on three days of the weekend, down more than 50% from the opening weekend, which was a poor trend. The Martian poster
Fox's sci-fi blockbuster The Martian was slashed to more than 700 theaters last weekend, reduced to 2,086 theaters, and another $3.7 million was taken over the weekend. The film saw its highest drop since its release, down 45 percent from the previous weekend and falling to seventh place over the weekend. Matt Damon's Martian version of Desert Island grossed $213 million in North America, surpassing "Saving Private Ryan" ($216 million) to become matt Damon's second-grossing film of his career, behind "Spy 3" ($227 million). Warner's adventure drama "33 Miners" remained screened in 2,452 theaters last weekend and closed another $2.24 million in three days, falling to ninth place on the weekend, a 61 percent drop from the opening weekend. The film, based on the famous "Peru Mining Incident," grossed $9.9 million in North America and performed modestly.
Disney-released bridges of spies, released by Steven Spielberg and directed by Steven Spielberg, were slashed by more than 1,100 theaters last weekend and then collected another $1.95 million in 1,532 theaters over the weekend, down 54 percent from the previous weekend and falling back to tenth place over the weekend. The political suspense film starring veteran Tom Hanks has accumulated $65.17 million in North America and is expected to close at more than $75 million.
