As soon as 2022 began, the SUV market was full of smoke. Especially in the compact SUV market, models including Feng landa, Corolla Ruifang, and the second-generation CS75PLUS have appeared successively.

As the main force in the passenger car market, the overall performance of the SUV market in 2021 is slightly weak. According to the data of the Association of Passenger Vehicles, in 2021, the domestic SUV market sales were about 9.221 million units, a slight increase of only 3% year-on-year, and failed to outperform the market. In this context, mainstream car companies have begun to dig deep into the potential market of SUVs and try to gain something this year.

On January 20, FAW Toyota Corolla Ruifang was listed, with a price range of 129,800 yuan to 169,800 yuan. Positioned as a compact SUV, Ruifang is currently the lowest-priced SUV model under FAW Toyota.

Judging from the sales ranking of the SUV market in 2021, the compact SUV market has become a "must for the soldiers". For example, seven of the top ten models are compact SUVs. It can be said that compact SUV models are already the absolute workhorse in the SUV market.

At present, in the compact SUV market, FAW Toyota has a RAV4 Rongfang model; in the small SUV market, it has laid out yize IZEOA; in the high-end SUV field, there are crown land amplifiers, Lingfang and other models. With the emergence of Ruifang, FAW Toyota's layout in the SUV market will be more perfect, fully covering the mainstream SUV market segment.

It is reported that Ruifang is based on the TNGA platform architecture. Prior to this, FAW Toyota has launched a number of models based on the TNGA architecture, including Asia Lion, RAV4 Rongfang Dual Engine E+, new Yize IZE ILO HEV, Crown Land Release, Lingfang and so on. Official data show that in the whole year of 2021, FAW Toyota's TNGA model sales accounted for 89.04%.

Also a "Toyota Series" compact SUV, the Corolla Sharp Release is considered to be a sister model of the Frontland. From the perspective of price, the highest price of the two models is the same, and the starting price of Fenglanda is slightly lower than 4,000 yuan; from the perspective of body size, the width, height and wheelbase of the two models are the same, and the body length of Fenglanda is 25mm more than sharp.

Its own brands are also eyeing the compact SUV market. On the day of the listing of Corolla Ruifang, the second-generation CS75PLUS of Changan Automobile also opened pre-sale, launching a total of 6 models of 1.5T and 2.0T, with a pre-sale price range of 127,900 to 154,900 yuan. According to the data of the Association, in 2021, the cumulative sales volume of Changan CS75 was about 274,700 units, an increase of 4.8% year-on-year, ranking second in the domestic SUV retail sales list.

Car companies are betting on the popular compact SUV market at the same time, but also opening up a new market segment, plug-in hybrid SUVs are one of them, the current independent brands are particularly concerned about this field. A few days ago, the first model of the Wei brand "0 anxiety intelligent electric" category, Mocha DHT-PHEV, opened pre-sale, of which 0 anxiety smart version 299,000 yuan (two-wheel drive), 0 anxiety performance version 315,000 yuan (four-wheel drive). As a result, Weipai's three series of mocha, latte and macchiato have launched hybrid versions.

From the price point of view, the Mocha DHT-PHEV makes the price of Wei brand models reach the level of 300,000 yuan for the first time. Prior to this, the most expensive model of Weipai was a mocha (fuel), which ranged from 187,800 to 223,800 yuan.

In addition to Weipai, at present, independent car companies including BYD, Geely, Changan and other independent car companies have successively launched hybrid SUV models. This indicates that in the camp of independent brands, Changan Blue Whale iDD Hybrid System and BYD DM-i Super Hybrid, Great Wall Lemon DHT Hybrid Platform, Chery Kunpeng DHT and so on have been fiercely competing in the SUV market.

Guotai Junan Securities Research Report believes that compared with the previous generation of domestic hybrid models, the new generation of products has overcome the fuel consumption problem and driving smoothness problems in the state of power loss, and the difference between the price and the same level of fuel vehicles has dropped from the initial 60,000 to 80,000 yuan to 10,000 to 20,000 yuan, regardless of the purchase cost or the use cost of the later stage has greater advantages and attractiveness.

Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the National Passenger Car Market Information Joint Association, believes that the promotion of the development of independent brand plug-in and mixed products is mainly to break through the main A-class car market, not a simple high-end, and the current A-class car market is huge. Joint venture brand fuel vehicles face the problem of high fuel consumption and electric vehicles are difficult to meet mainstream demand, so the low-cost strategy of independent insertion and mixing can effectively promote the transfer of fuel vehicles to new energy vehicles and help independent brands achieve new breakthroughs.
