On January 20, local time, slovenian President Pahor's office said in response to the Slovenian News Agency (STA) on Prime Minister Jan Shah's recent inappropriate remarks on the Taiwan issue that Slovenia has always supported the one-China principle since the establishment of diplomatic relations with China.

On January 19, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Slovenia pointed out that the Chinese side strongly urges the Sri Lankan side to avoid words and deeds that run counter to the one-China principle and to safeguard the political foundation of bilateral relations and the achievements of cooperation in various fields.
On 19 January, Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian stressed that there is only one China in the world, that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, that the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China, that the one-China principle is a universally recognized norm governing international relations and the universal consensus of the international community, and that it is also the political foundation for Sino-Sri lankan and Sino-European relations.
