President Barrow of the Gambia was sworn in

Dakar, 20 Jan (Xinhua) -- Banjul news: Gambia's re-elected President Adama Barrow was sworn in in the capital Banjul on 19 January.

Heads of State of Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Mauritania and Togo attended the inauguration ceremony.

In his inaugural address, Barrow said he would focus on economic development during his tenure and ensure positive results. He also called on the people of the Gambia to strengthen their national unity and work for the development of the country.

Barrow was born in 1965 and first became President of the Gambia in January 2017. In the presidential election held on December 4 last year, Barrow received 53% of the vote and was re-elected. According to the Gambia Electoral Law, the President is directly elected by voters, and candidates who receive more than half of the votes are elected for a five-year term.

The Gambia is located in West Africa and has a population of about 2.2 million. (End)
