The painting depicts Florinda (the far right of fig. 1) and a group of palace ladies chatting by the pool. Beautiful Florinda and her companions, dressed in luxurious silk dresses, sat by the pool in the garden in different postures, chatting with great interest.

Legend has it that Roderick, the last king of Spain, was killed after peeking at the palace maids bathing. While Florinda and the other palace ladies were bathing in the garden, King Roderick of Spain hid in the bushes and secretly observed in order to select the most beautiful woman. In the end, Roderick chose Florinda and seduced her. Florinda's father, Count Julian, was furious when he learned of this. So Count Julian secretly met with the Arabs and encouraged them to invade Spain. Not long after, the Arabs invaded Spain. In the ensuing war, Spain was defeated and King Roderick was killed in the war. After that, the Arabs ruled Spain for two hundred years.
