The Iranian president visited Russia to hold talks with Putin

Moscow, 19 Jan (China News Service) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and visiting Iranian President Lehi held talks at the Kremlin on 19 January. The two sides discussed deepening bilateral relations and exchanged views on a series of issues, including the international and regional situation and the implementation of the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear issue.

During the talks, Putin noted that despite the impact of the new crown epidemic, the volume of trade between Russia and Iran increased by 38% last year. At present, the two sides are implementing a series of major joint projects and cooperating in many fields. Lehi said that Iran has submitted a draft 20-year strategic cooperation agreement to Russia, hoping to continuously improve the level of economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two sides, and carry out new cooperation in economic, political, cultural, scientific and technological, defense, military, security, aerospace and many other fields.

Putin said Russia and Iran cooperate closely on the international stage. Through their efforts, the two sides have helped the Syrian government overcome the threat of international terrorism. Lehi said the cooperation experience of the two sides in combating terrorism in Syria can create conditions for application in many other fields. Lehi said that the relations between Iran and Russia are long-term and strategic, and hope that the relations between the two sides will continue to remain stable.

At the invitation of Putin, Lehi began a 2-day visit to Russia from the 19th. It is reported that this is Lehi's first foreign visit since he became the president of Iran last August. (End)
