Beijing, January 20 (China News Service) -- Wei Handong, deputy director of the Fire and Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Emergency Management of China, said in Beijing on the 20th that in 2021, a total of 748,000 fires were reported nationwide, and the direct property loss was 6.75 billion yuan (RMB, the same below).

Wei Handong informed at the meeting that according to preliminary statistics, in 2021, a total of 748,000 fires were reported nationwide, 1,987 deaths, 2,225 injuries, and direct property losses of 6.75 billion yuan, compared with 2020, the number of cases and injuries and losses increased by 9.7%, 24.1% and 28.4% respectively, and the number of dead fell by 4.8%. Among them, there were 84 large fires, an increase of 9 over 2020; 2 major fires, an increase of 1 over 2020, and no particularly major fires have occurred for six consecutive years. The increase in the use of electricity and gas for fire in winter has always been a period of high incidence of fire accidents. According to statistics, in the past five years, an average of 204,000 fires and 995 deaths occurred in the winter every year, accounting for 57.2% and 62.9% of the whole year, respectively, which were significantly higher than the summer and autumn festivals.

At the press conference, the Ministry of Emergency Management also announced the top ten typical cases of national emergency rescue in 2021, of which 3 cases were related to fires, namely the "4·20" forest fire fighting in Mianning County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan, the "5·31" fire accident rescue of Dingrui Petrochemical Co., Ltd. in Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, and the "8·27" fire fighting in Kaixuan International Building in Dalian, Liaoning.

The Spring Festival is coming, and winter is also a period of high incidence of fires, and the outside world is quite concerned about the deployment arrangements for preventing fire accidents. In this regard, Wei Handong said that in order to effectively prevent and resolutely curb the occurrence of major fire accidents, the Office of the State Council Safety Committee will deploy from November 2021 to March 2022 to carry out winter and spring fire prevention and control work nationwide. The overall goal is: combined with the three-year action of special rectification, resolutely prevent the occurrence of fire accidents that seriously impact public safety and the psychological bottom line of the people, resolutely curb the accident of heavy and extraordinarily large groups of deaths and injuries, make every effort to maintain the continued stability of the fire safety situation in winter, and focus on promoting the implementation of the work from three aspects: hidden danger management, supervision and law enforcement, and fire publicity.
