In Wang Bao Town, Qidong City, there is a figure running in the field all year round, tall, thin, dark-skinned, known as the "Yam King". He is Ni Zhonghui, chairman of the Qidong Zhonghui Fruit and Vegetable Professional Cooperative and deputy to the Provincial People's Congress, who has successively won the honors of "Nantong Model Worker", "Jiangsu Provincial Model Worker" and "National Labor Model".

More than a decade ago, yam was not favored by local farmers and markets in Qidong due to its low yield, small area and high price. In 2004, Ni Zhonghui introduced shelfless twin yam seedlings from Zhejiang at a high price, carefully cultivated, and successively explored an exclusive formula fertilization method, installed a special knife "plate" yam field for tractors, water-punched digging yam and a series of scientific planting methods, which saved a lot of labor while improving the output of yam. In 2010, he established the Zhonghui Fruit and Vegetable Professional Cooperative, actively developed order agriculture, and effectively solved the problems of "can't sell and sell at low prices" of agricultural products.

One person is not rich, Ni Zhonghui is determined to rely on the cooperative to drive the surrounding farmers to get rich together. Under his leadership, more than 100 villagers in Miaoqiao Village followed him to engage in yam cultivation, forming a one-stop production and operation model of production, supply and marketing. Over the years, according to the actual situation of the surrounding low-income and low-income households, he has carried out targeted poverty alleviation by sending projects, sending start-up funds, sending technology, etc., donating yams, fertilizers, pesticides, etc. to the difficult households lacking funds; helping farmers without labor to achieve full trusteeship; providing door-to-door counseling to farmers who lack technology, and guiding them in cultivation, disease prevention, sales and other links, so that the situation of the surrounding difficult groups has been greatly improved. He also sponsored 6 students from families with difficulties to complete their studies, encouraging them to use the knowledge they learned to return to their hometowns in the future.

As a deputy to the provincial people's congress, Ni Zhonghui has always insisted on speaking out for the peasants. He is often active in activities such as the "Reception Day for People's Congress Deputies," actively participates in training courses, experience exchange meetings, and group activities organized by people's congresses at all levels, and conscientiously performs his duties as deputies. During the NPC, he actively participated in the deliberation of various work reports, and made suggestions on rural revitalization, cultivation of agricultural technicians, and subsidies for the purchase of agricultural machinery. Ni Zhonghui put forward the suggestion that village cadres should master basic agricultural knowledge, which has been paid attention to by relevant departments, and the relevant professional knowledge training has been significantly strengthened in recent years, and now there are more and more village cadres who "understand agriculture and love agriculture".
