Big Cold | Remember them

There was once a shocking "comfort women" movie called "Big Cold". Since then, whenever this festival comes to mind, I think of them, the victims of the Japanese army's "comfort women" system.

Looking back at 2021, 7 elderly women in Chinese mainland stood up bravely and used blood-stained facts to accuse the atrocities that were once buried deeply; looking back at 2021, 2 victimized elderly people withered silently, but their indomitable cries echoed forever in the sky of history...

Seven elderly victims bravely spoke up

In October and November last year, the staff of our museum went to Hunan twice to conduct field investigations and visits, and newly identified 7 victims of the "comfort women" system of the Japanese army. The victimized old man bravely stood up and told the unfortunate encounter of that year, adding ironclad evidence to the atrocities of the Japanese invasion of China.

Li Xiuqing (Photo: Yao Qiang/Feng Peng)

Born on October 4, 1922, he is a native of Shilam Village, Jiahe County, Chenzhou, Hunan. One day when he was about 16 years old, Li Xiuqing, who was dressed as a man, was taken away and incorporated into the new 23rd Division of the National Revolutionary Army and sent to southwest Lu to resist The Japanese. During a battle, her left palm was punctured by a Japanese bullet, transferred to a field hospital for treatment, and returned to her hometown after recovering from her wounds.

One day at the end of 1944, Li Xiuqing was captured by the Japanese army and locked up in a large green brick house in Tanping Town. She was raped by the Japanese army in turn, and if she resisted, she would be severely beaten by the Japanese army. A few days later, when the Japanese learned that the local guerrillas were coming, they decided to withdraw and poured gasoline around the outside of the house to prepare a fire to burn the house. Before they could light the fire, the guerrillas arrived in time and smashed the door lock to rescue Li Xiuqing and several other women.

Yi Julian (Photo: Yao Qiang/Feng Peng)

Born on September 11, 1936, he is a native of Fenghua Village, Jinjing Town, Changsha County, Hunan Province. In the early summer of 1944, the last time the Japanese army came to sweep, Yi Julian was captured by Japanese soldiers, who were not yet 10 years old at the time, and were raped by several Japanese troops on the road.

Later, the Japanese army took Yi Julian to a place about 10 miles from home, locked her in a house, and tortured her to the point of not looking like a human. After a few days, Yi Julian found that the Japanese soldiers outside the door had not moved, so he jumped out of the window and ran home. Up to now, Yi Ju is still afraid of the Japanese, and she will cry when she sees japanese soldiers on TV.

Lei Jinlian (Photo: Yao Qiang/Feng Qian)

Born on March 11, 1930, he is a native of Huarong County, Hunan. Around May 1943, Lei Jinlian was captured by the Japanese army and locked up in a thatched hut in the courtyard. After being imprisoned, every day the Japanese came to bully Lei Jinlian, loudly intimidating her, or forcing her to undress with bayonets.

After about half a month of imprisonment, my father sold his property (fishing boats, etc.) and spent money to find someone who maintained the association to rescue Lei Jinlian. After returning home, her father told Lei Jinlian not to tell anyone about it. Now she saw the Japanese soldiers on TV and was very scared to hear the voices of the Japanese.

Born on July 25, 1925, a native of Huarong County, Hunan Province, Lei Jinlian's older sister. One day in the spring and summer of 1943, Rekin II was captured by the Japanese army and taken to the stronghold, where a varying number of Japanese troops committed violence against him every day. Ten days later, when her father learned that Lei Jin'er was imprisoned in a Japanese stronghold, he ransomed her back with money through the maintenance association.

After returning home, his father also told Lei Jin'er not to tell outsiders about his experience. Originally, the family had fishing boats and lived a relatively prosperous life. In order to rescue Lei Jin'er and Lei Jinlian, his father almost sold all the valuable things in the family.

Li Shuzhen (Photo: Yao Qiang/Feng Peng)

Born in October 1915, a native of Pingjiang County, Hunan Province. In 1944, at the age of 29, Li Shuzhen was captured by the Japanese army and imprisoned in a house at the foot of the mountain. Seven or eight women from the same village were detained here along with Li Shuzhen. In this room, the Japanese army sexually abused them. A few days later, the Japanese army moved the women to the stronghold to carry out the attack, the Japanese army was slightly dissatisfied with the fists and feet, Li Shuzhen was injured by the Japanese army during this period on the back. Later, Li Shuzhen was abandoned because her body could not withstand the ravages of the Japanese army, and her family found her and escaped the disaster. Now that only Li Shuzhen is the only woman left in the same village who has been taken away, the family is preparing to give the elderly a "tea birthday" (108 years old) in 2022.

The 2 elderly victims withered silently

In 2021, 2 victims of the Japanese military's "comfort women" system left us forever. The old people have gone with the wind, but they are forever staring at this history, waiting for justice to come.

Chenlian Village

Born in 1926, died on June 30, 2021, was originally from Baoting County, Hainan Province. At the age of 16, she was forcibly captured by the Japanese army and sent to the military headquarters, washing and cooking for Japanese soldiers during the day and forced to provide sexual services at night. Soon she became seriously ill due to her unbearable health, and her family rescued her, and after recovering from her illness, she was captured by the Japanese army and taken to the barracks. It was not until after the surrender of the Japanese army in 1945 that she lived a normal life and settled in Wanning in her later years.

Yu Aizhen

Born in March 1924, died on November 24, 2021. In 1944, he was taken away by the Japanese army and detained in the local comfort station, and escaped back a dozen days later. This experience Yu Aizhen never mentioned to others, because she could not have children after marriage, Yu Aizhen adopted a son.

When the daughter-in-law needed birth control after giving birth to her third child, Yu Aizhen begged her daughter-in-law not to do so. At this time, she told her daughter-in-law about her being abused by the Japanese, saying that she was bullied by the Japanese and did not have her own children. Yu Aizhen especially loves children, and her three grandchildren were brought up by her.

After walking through the great cold, it is the spring, and justice and justice will come one day.

If the living are like this, we will not stop the pursuit of the truth. The courage of the elderly to face life has inspired us to carry out the work of caring for and discovering the elderly victims, excavating the historical materials related to the "comfort women" problem of the Japanese army, and promoting the application for the "comfort women" data.
