North Korea: Be more thoroughly prepared for a long-term confrontation with the United States

Pyongyang, 20 Jan (Xinhua) -- According to a report by the KCNA on 20 January, Kim Jong-un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, presided over a meeting of the Politburo on 19 January. The meeting redeployed the task of national defense policy, decided to immediately strengthen and develop more powerful material means, promptly discussed the question of restarting all suspended activities, and more thoroughly prepared for a long-term confrontation with the United States.

The sixth Politburo meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea discussed and decided on the current work of the party and the state and important policy issues, including the direction of foreign policy toward the United States. The meeting reported on the recent "misdeeds and rash moves" of the United States over the DPRK's legitimate exercise of sovereignty.

According to reports, in recent years after the DPRK-US summit, the United States has not fulfilled its personal commitment to terminate joint military exercises with the ROK, but has instead conducted various strategic weapons tests, shipped sophisticated military attack weapons into the ROK, and deployed nuclear strategic weapons in the vicinity of the Korean Peninsula, seriously threatening the DPRK's security. In addition, the United States has taken more than 20 sanctions against North Korea alone, seriously desecrating the dignity of North Korea.

The meeting held that after the DPRK-US summit in Singapore, the DPRK has made sincere efforts to maintain the situation on the peninsula, but the hostile policy and military threat of the United States have reached an intolerable and dangerous point, so the DPRK should be more thoroughly prepared for a long-term confrontation with US imperialism.

The report also said that the meeting redeployed its national defense policy tasks, decided to immediately strengthen and develop more powerful material means to suppress the increasingly fierce hostility of the United States toward the DPRK, and issued instructions to relevant departments to reconsider the measures taken by the DPRK to take the initiative against the United States in order to establish a relationship of trust, and to promptly discuss the issue of restarting all activities that have been suspended.
