This book condenses Professor Guo Qiyong's teaching and research experience for more than 30 years, and reflects the common work and accumulation of several generations of scholars in the more than 100 years since the establishment of the discipline of Chinese philosophy. The whole book systematically introduces the development history of Chinese philosophy, paying special attention to the interpretation of representative philosophical classics and philosophers' thoughts, and fully reveals the characteristics of Chinese philosophical wisdom that are different from Western philosophy and its modern value.

This book puts forward a four-stage phased theory of the history of Chinese philosophy; it deletes the parts of cumbersome examination and the background of the times, and goes straight to the philosophical theme, so as to select ideological trends and representative figures, highlight the main points and key points of his philosophical thought, grasp the big and let go of the small, accurately grasp the relevant categories and propositions, objectively comment on the contributions and limitations of various schools and factions, strive to explain a problem thoroughly, and grasp a problem without grasping a problem in the east and grasping a problem in the west, so that it is not clear It has focused on strengthening the understanding and corresponding interpretation of the most representative original classics and the ordinary interpretation of the thoughts of the characters, and strives to analyze the connotation and characteristics of Chinese philosophy itself, especially the differences with Western philosophical characters, avoiding wearing boots and hats and cutting feet.

Guo Qiyong is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Philosophy and the School of Chinese Studies of Wuhan University, honorary director of the Research Center for Traditional Chinese Culture, and a resident researcher of the Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences. In 2006, he was named a national-level famous teacher, in 2017 he was named an outstanding figure in the study of Confucianism in the world, and in 2019, he was named a Confucian master.

He once served as the dean of the School of Humanities and the Dean of the School of Philosophy of Wuhan University, the president of the International Chinese Philosophical Society (ISCP), the vice president of the Chinese Philosophical History Society, the vice president of the Chinese Confucius Society, etc.; he is currently the honorary president of the Shandong Jiaxiang Zengzi Research Institute, the chairman of the Academic Committee of the Guiyang Confucius Academy, and the librarian of the Hubei Provincial Museum of Literature and History.

He is mainly engaged in the teaching and research of Chinese philosophy and culture, specializing in the history of Chinese philosophy and Confucian philosophy.
