In 1909, Mr. Chan Tsz King, a Christian in Yunan Chezai District, was martyred

author:Chen Shiru

During 1909, several people in Che Tsai distric converted to Christianity, after which an elderly man became a martyr of his faith. His story is told in Forty Years of Our Mission in China*:

The Chan family, with several members of a powerful family of hundreds of people, became Christians and were active. The patriarch of the clan, 61-year-old Chen Zijing, a scholar and feng shui master who set the date for weddings and funerals, and found auspicious places for tombs, was completely changed. When he arrived before the executive board meeting, he said something like this: "I have been an explorer all my life. I had been studying all the books and philosophies of the Chinese so I learned about their feng shui, fortune telling, and everything else. I've never been satisfied. I was satisfied when I learned that God had sent His Son to bear my sins for me; I believed that Jesus would forgive my sins and save my soul. ”

This is a very happy time for all of us. When he and his companions returned home, they began to hold parties to win over their township. At their second Sabbath meeting, a group of his own people besieged the place, sabotaging the meeting and knocking some people unconscious. Chen Zijing fled to the mountains, where he hid for several weeks, enduring bad weather, and order was not restored until he intervened by Nazhou Zhi. When he could go home, he was so weak that he died a few days later. Less than two months after his joyful baptism, he gave his life for this holy name... The same is true of the martyrdom of the Covenanters in the scottish mountains for the sake of their faith.

The Scottish Mountain Covenanters would rather sacrifice their lives than abandon their precious biblical faith under the threat of the wicked.
