Yong qi is the most outstanding of all Qianlong's sons, who was intelligent and studious when he was a child, not only knowledgeable, but also superior in martial arts.
Yongqi is proficient in Chinese, Mongolian and Manchu, and has studied astronomy, geography and almanac, and his level of calligraphy and painting is also one of the best, which is a proper scholar in modern times. With such an excellent son, Qianlong naturally loved him and even intended to pass the throne to him.
It is said that the fifth brother Yongqi is favored, so how much is he favored? Where can we see that Qianlong intends to pass it on to him? The author believes that there are two aspects that can be proved.
First, Yongqi once saved Qianlong's life. In the twenty-eighth year of Qianlong, there was a fire in Qingyan, Kyushu, and he was with Prince Hongzhi and Qianlong at that time, but he did not come forward in time to save the car. Yongqi knew that the fire was happening, and rushed to save his father at the first time, carrying him out of the fire.
Qianlong has always advocated filial piety, and Yongqi's behavior this time has brought Qianlong a great shock. He believed that in a critical moment, everyone was concerned about their own escape, but Yongqi was the first to save himself, at which time Qianlong had already had a great idea of standing up.
Two years later, Yongqi was officially crowned prince of Heshuorong. Many people will say, since Qianlong moved Li Chu's mind, why didn't he directly make Yongqi the crown prince, but instead made him a prince? I'll explain this later. However, it is already a great honor for the prince to be crowned prince before he dies.
During the Qianlong period, only three people were crowned princes before their deaths, and one of them was the later Jiaqing Emperor. And Yongqi was the first to enjoy this honor, which shows that Qianlong had high hopes for him.
Second, Qianlong personally admitted it. To say that Qianlong intended to pass the throne to Yongqi, it is not as convincing as Qianlong personally admitting it according to what others say. In the fifty-eighth year of Qianlong, British envoys came to see Qianlong, ostensibly to celebrate Qianlong's birthday, but in fact wanted to open up the Chinese market through negotiations.
When the two sides talked about the topic of the crown prince, Qianlong said to the envoys: "At that time, the fifth son of the emperor was more valuable among the sons, and the things such as Chinese, Manchu, Mongolian, horse steps, riding archery, and algorithms were all skillful, which was quite intentional with the other, and showed the words, and died of illness." ”
At that time, Yongqi had been dead for many years, but Qianlong still did not forget his beloved son, and even in front of foreign envoys, he bluntly stated that he had intended to pass the throne to him. This was said by the Qianlong Emperor himself, which showed that he belonged to Yongqi.
Since Qianlong loved Yongqi so much, why was he not made crown prince until Yongqi's death? I think there are several major reasons for this.
First, after the painful loss of his beloved son, Qianlong did not dare to make a prince at will
As we all know, Qianlong's original favorite prince was the second brother Yonglian. Although Yonglian was the second son, his birth mother was Empress Fucha, who was the concubine of the Qianlong Emperor. Qianlong and Empress Fucha had a deep affection, and Yonglian was a wise man, who was deeply loved by Qianlong and praised her: "The concubine of Yuan, intelligent and valuable, with extraordinary temperament." ”
As soon as Qianlong ascended the throne, he secretly established Yong Lian as the crown prince of the Qing Dynasty. Unfortunately, when Yonglian was nine years old, he fell ill and died, and Qianlong was so grief-stricken that he posthumously honored him as "Crown Prince Duanhui".
Later, Empress Fucha gave birth to the seventh brother Yongchun, and Qianlong once again moved the heart of Li Chu, but unfortunately Yongchun died at the age of two, which brought a great blow to Qianlong.
Therefore, although Yongqi was favored, Qianlong did not dare to make him the crown prince at will, he was afraid that he would think the same as he did then, once he moved the heart of Li Chu, he would eventually fail to fulfill his wishes. Li Yongqi's appointment as Prince HeshuoRong was an indirect hint to him that he would inherit the throne in the future.
Second, Qianlong was in good health and was not in a hurry
With the first reason, Qianlong did not dare to set up reserves at will. In addition, the Qianlong Emperor was very long-lived, although he did not know how long he could live, but during the period when Yongqi was the most favored, Qianlong's health was still very good. He knew that he was not dying so quickly, so he was not so anxious about the matter of the reserve.
In fact, in Qianlong's mind, Yongqi was already a candidate for the crown prince, and the establishment of a prince was just a form. In the future, when he is old and weak, everything has become a foregone conclusion, and it is not too late to become a prince again.
Third, Yongqi died too suddenly
When Yongqi was crowned Prince Heshuorong, he was only twenty-four years old, in the midst of his youth. But Qianlong did not expect that Yongqi died suddenly the next year. Before Yong Lian and Yong Chun died, they were still very young, but Yong Qi had reached adulthood, and from the perspective of ancient times, he had passed through the "dangerous period" of premature death and could thrive.
However, Qianlong's life was so bitter, even if his son became an adult, he could not live healthily. Yongqi has already been crowned prince, maybe in two years, Qianlong will put aside the old affairs, and he will be made crown prince, but unfortunately he did not wait for that time.
Although Yongqi was not made crown prince until his death, in the author's opinion, he was already the crown prince of "Neiding". It is only the fate of man, how can it be clearly stated? In the Qianlong era, not to mention Yongqi, many princes could not survive the old father.
It can only be said that Jiaqing's fate is good, if any of Yonglian' brothers, Yongqing, and Yongqi are still alive, the throne may not be his turn.
