About Detroit
Detroit is located in the Great Lakes Region of Michigan, with a total population of about 720,000, making it the most populous city in Michigan. At the same time, Detroit is located on the border between the United States and Canada, and its area is about 370.2 square kilometers, making it a unique metropolis on the border between the United States and Canada.
Known as the "Motor City," Detroit is a metropolis with a strong automotive culture. World War II brought great development and opportunities to Detroit's automotive industry.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Detroit's auto industry became the center of the world's auto industry, and both General Motors and Ford Motor Company were headquartered in Detroit, and their scenery was once second only to New York and Chicago, far from being dilapidated today.
Life in Detroit
Detroit is located on the banks of several rivers and lakes, including the Detroit River and Lake Erie. One obvious benefit of Detroit is that during the cold winter months, citizens can do sports such as skiing and ice skating on the frozen water.
Another benefit of Detroit is that there are plenty of cheap houses here. For example, apartments in the suburbs of Detroit have prices below 2,000 yuan a flat. Downtown Detroit has many high-rise residences and traditional townhouses, and rents here will be slightly higher, with monthly rents of up to 12,000 yuan (converting 1:6.3 us dollars to 1:6.3).
Detroit's Midtown, Corktown, and Greektown are steeped in history, with historic wooden homes, funky lofts, exposed bricks, and long galleries, artisan-level shops and plenty of cafes, bars, restaurants, hardware stores, grocery stores, and markets.
The city itself is not as attractive as Chicago or Toronto. I think the attraction here is the adult bars, dance clubs, nightclubs and street food that can be found throughout the city.
Street food is affordable and very popular, and the city is the birthplace of Kony hot dogs and ice cream sodas. Foods such as fried chicken, patties and catfish, which many local blacks love, are also popular.
Detroit is located in one of the top ten most dangerous cities in the United States, and its crime rate is quite high, well above the U.S. average. In Detroit, there is about one murder a day. It also means that Americans are more likely to be shot in Detroit than in most other U.S. cities.
In my experience, just doing the following can greatly reduce the probability of being shot in Detroit. First, don't rush into a community. Some communities may be shot just because you stare at the people in the community for a while.
Second, try not to go to the gas station after work at night, because robberies and shootings often occur at the gas station at night. It is best to go to the gas during the day. Third, no one can be denigrated at will. For example: When you see a drunken man lying asleep or passing out on the lawn in your yard, don't insult him.
I think the fundamental reason Why Detroit has become so dilapidated and insecure is that it has never fully recovered from the racial unrest of the 1960s. As U.S. auto manufacturing shrank, Detroit citizens suffered massive job losses, causing large numbers of citizens to leave the city in droves.
In fact, many Americans move out of Detroit not because they are worried about their safety or because they can't find a job. They are more concerned with their children's education. Detroit's school education has suffered a huge decline due to the economic downturn, and Americans would rather spend more money than live with their children in better-educated cities.
Detroit in my eyes
Detroit's many abandoned factories have been razed to the ground, and there are signs of growth in various industries, and large banks and financial companies such as PwC and EY have also opened large offices in Detroit.
However, the future development of Detroit cannot be prematurely determined. Unless you're confident in Detroit's future, it's unwise to relocate to a cheap city with no job offers.
