I thought it was a comedy when I heard the name, but it was actually a tragic story about a pair of young parents accompanying their son with Progeria through his last days, which reminded me of the sister in Sichuan who took care of her brother who died prematurely, and South Korea once again grabbed us ahead of us to put this theme on the big screen.
Korean filmmakers are indeed delicate and vivid in emotional descriptions and character portrayals, real and natural, making people feel empathy and feel infinite warmth and moisture in their hearts. In the movie "Flutter My Life", it covers almost every family, friendship and love you can think of. The love story between her parents, Daisuke and Mei Luo, fell in love at first sight because of a chance encounter, and gave up all dreams because she became pregnant at the age of 17 and gave birth to a son with Progeria. Father and son are more like friends, in order not to let their sons be discriminated against and others fight, see the game console given to their son by well-wishers and hungry, accompany their sons to see the shooting stars and make a wish. Mother and son are more like lovers in the past life, in the strange eyes of others, the mother without scruples to hold the son's hand tightly walking on the street, the son's self-blame and companionship after the son's illness, before death, the son happily snuggled in the mother's arms and left safely. Friends with the neighbor's uncle, talking and drinking together, comforting and encouraging each other is a confidant. The hazy and poetic love sinus between the son and the netizens first bloomed, before the flower fell under the moon, but unfortunately, it was found that it was just a dream of Nanke, which made people sigh. Whenever we see the parents in the play watching their son's condition deteriorate day by day, but they can't do anything, forget the hardships of life, try their best to force a smile, and try to accompany their children through the last days of life, we as parents will not feel empathy, can't help but overflow tears, this is also the most touching place in the movie.
I think the biggest success of the film is also due to the wonderful performance of the young actor Cao Chengmu, who brought to life a young, old, experienced, optimistic and open-minded progeria child, the details are in place, the expression is real and natural, and even overshadows the aura of the two big stars. Of course, Song Huiqiao's mother image is also just right, and Jiang Dongyuan undoubtedly dedicated his best performance.
I think the biggest problem with the film is that the narrative structure is a bit messy, the interspersed between memory and reality is a bit arbitrary, and sometimes the audience has some doubts about whether the film is going to tell the love story between parents or the family story between parents and sons, which is easy to destroy the audience's viewing emotions. The comedic elements in the film are not too successful, and many of the bridges are familiar, which do not achieve the role of regulating the atmosphere, nor do they play a role in providing emotional preparation and enhancing the tragic effect for the final tragic ending. If it weren't for these two obvious shortcomings, I could rate this film as excellent.
