Introduction to FIRST | Bad future

author:FIRST Youth Film Festival

The future should never be bad, the bad thing is that we are always expecting it not to be bad.

What is obvious is that we all think that the present is not good enough, which is a widespread social sentiment, "the sky is not blue enough, the road is not wide enough, life is not poetic enough." For example, our timing is not accurate enough, the technology is not advanced enough, so our films are not good enough, which is the causal logic that is easy to deduce.

No one is actually stopping expecting. All "not enough" translates into capacity, and "not enough" gives us the right and courage to transform ourselves and the world. It is also because of all kinds of "not enough" to complain that the present can no longer fulfill our expectations for the future. So there is a day and night labor to support the present and the continuing existence. If dystopia is a creative narrative based on reality that provides some reference or foil to the ideal world, can our labor now be seen as a kind of writing that looks to the future?

The Frenchman Foucault once used the "panoramic prison" to refer to the fact that whether the controller is present or absent, people assume its existence and have to accept external control, while also consciously punishing themselves. And in the present, the panoramic vision that you can see us and we can't see you seems to have evolved into a co-viewing structure, where we stare at each other and control each other, game and balance. Therefore, the previous acquired causal logic and the once indestructible narrative have been challenged, the sky is not blue enough, the road is not wide enough, life may be poetic, the timing is accurate, the technology is advanced, and the movie is not necessarily good.

We live in a random and suspicious time, so if life deceives you, you may be able to believe that the future is bad enough, because if the place where you have not been is sinister enough, then the established present will be bright enough.

Wish us all a bad future.
