In the early days of the museum's preparations, Lin Jianxin invested in the selection of a historic building in Philadelphia, USA, which was once the former residence of the famous American architect Custer. After the renovation, the museum named the building "The Garden of Custer". "In an American-style historical and cultural heritage building, the history and culture of Chinese immigrants are recorded, which not only highlights the desire of Asians to integrate into American society, but also provides a window for americans to understand the history and culture of Chinese immigrants, and promotes American society to eliminate discrimination and estrangement against Asians." Lin Jianxin said that Chinese immigrants have made indelible contributions to the economic development of the United States, such as the early Chinese workers to build the American railroad, the alliance to fight fascism, etc., and now more Chinese Americans are active in the American political, business, cultural and sports circles and other fields, contributing wisdom to social development, and the museum should give records.

According to reports, in 2021, the museum completed the collection of exhibits on the "History of Chinese Immigration", opened exhibition areas such as "Memorabilia of the Interactive Development of the United States and China", "Hall of Honor for Chinese Contributions in the United States", "American Chinese Food History Museum", and renovated the outdoor garden and erected flagpoles.
