China Report News: (Geng Ling reports on the text/Li Yang) Recently, I learned from the Dalian Training Base of Guide Dogs in China that 68 guide dogs carefully trained by the base have been tested by experts from relevant state departments and can be provided to blind athletes for use, and will be unveiled at the Winter Paralympic Games held in Beijing from March 4 to 13 this year.
In September 2019, the research team on guide dog behavior led by Wang Jingyu, director of the Dalian Training Base for Guide Dogs in China, successfully applied for the "Science and Technology Winter Olympics" National Key Research and Development Program Project set up by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China - "Guide Dog Breeding, Training and Screening Evaluation System and Standard Research and Application Demonstration". The project is mainly for the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games, the establishment of technical methods for special training subjects for guide dogs under complex and cold environmental conditions, the development of corresponding special training courses for guide dogs, and the formulation of assessment standards.
According to the requirements of relevant norms, starting from December 2019, after two years of hard work, the Dalian Training Base of Chinese Guide Dogs has boldly practiced, ensured quality, and continuously improved training methods under the condition of tight time and heavy tasks, and has successfully trained 68 guide dogs suitable for complex and cold environmental conditions in advance and can lead blind athletes to travel independently and autonomously (more than 48 than the original number of tasks), and will be applied and demonstrated at the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games and Winter Paralympic Village. Chinese mainland's first guide dog base, China Guide Dog Dalian Training Base, was officially listed in Dalian Medical University on May 15, 2006. As a result, Dalian Medical University has become the birthplace of the guide dog business in the mainland. The guide dog is not only another pair of eyes for the blind, but also an indispensable spiritual companion in life. In the past 16 years, under the cultivation of Director Wang Jingyu, the father of guide dogs, and the team, by the end of December 2021, a total of 262 qualified guide dogs have been bred, and blind friends in 25 cities across the country have beloved guide dogs. As a public welfare organization, all guide dogs trained by Dalian Guide Dog Training Base are delivered to blind friends free of charge.
