What is less known is that during the Liberation War, Nie Fengzhi, a famous general of a generation, personally went into battle to engage in a fierce battle with a regular unit of the enemy, and the commander of the Tangtang First Army was "oversized" at this time and actually started the work of battalion commander.
On April 21, 1949, the 236th, 237th, 239th, 241st and 242nd regiments of the 27th Army of the People's Liberation Army and the command posts of the army all crossed the Yangtze River. After each unit landed, it launched a fierce and unstoppable attack on its own intended attack point.
After Nie Fengzhi, commander of the Twenty-seventh Army, landed on the shore, he immediately dictated a telegram: "We have triumphantly set foot on the land of Jiangnan!" "In this way, I will report the victory to the Central Military Commission."
Next, under the personal leadership of Nie Fengzhi, the Twenty-seventh Army began a seven-day and seven-night pursuit of thousands of miles in Jiangnan. They advanced along the Xuancheng and Guangde lines in Anhui to Wuxing, Zhejiang, and strived to join the division at Wuxing with the friendly and neighboring regiments before the end of the month, cut off the Ninghang Highway in one fell swoop, and encircle the enemy fleeing south.
Along the way, there were destroyed vehicles, cannons, dirty military blankets, quilts, scattered paper and ammunition, which were traces of the enemy's wretched escape, and on both sides of the road, in the drizzle, the wounded and scattered soldiers of the enemy were wailing and begging for mercy.
Nie Fengzhi and Chief of Staff Li Yuan, with their capable military command posts, competed with large troops and always relied on the forward army.
On the morning of the 27th, Nie Fengzhi led the command post of the Twenty-seventh Army to jiepai village, 20 miles east of Guangde. Nie Fengzhi ordered the troops to pause in place to eliminate the fatigue of continuous marching and fighting.
After many days of high-intensity marching, everyone was really tired to the extreme. As soon as they rested, some of them sat on the ground with guns and dozed off, and some of them snored as soon as they leaned against the trunk.
Nie Fengzhi, as a commander, did not care to rest immediately, so he turned and went into a small hut and spread out the battle map, intending to check the location of the divisions of the Twenty-seventh Army.
He fixed his eyes on the forward arrow of the Seventy-ninth Division, and was looking for the Eighty Division, when suddenly there was a dense burst of gunfire outside the house: "Ding, Ding, Ding—" "Da, Da, Da,"
The guard hurried in and said, "Report to the commander, the enemy has been found in the north of the village!" ”
Nie Fengzhi only took two steps out of the house, only to see that the enemy's fire in the north of the village was fierce. Judging from the sound of light and heavy machine guns, this does not look like the enemy's scattered soldiers at all, and is most likely a regular unit.
"Boom!" Another cannon sound landed on the slope of the earth six or seven meters in front of Nie Fengzhi, and the dirt that was lifted splashed on him, and his head was full of dust.
"Oops, it looks like the enemy has hit our army." Nie Fengzhi's heart tightened, but his face did not move.
Because the Twenty-seventh Army was inserted too quickly, all the troops were in pursuit of maneuver, and their positions were relatively scattered, and at this time there were no combat troops near the military headquarters, and there was no way to contact them in a hurry. The situation is extremely critical, what to do?
Nie Fengzhi immediately consulted with Li Yuan, chief of staff: "We must stabilize our position and not panic. Now that neither the enemy nor we can understand each other's reality, we must immediately counterattack and give the enemy a chance to get off the ground. ”
Li Yuan agreed, saying: "Commander, please return to the command position, I will deal with the enemy!" ”
At this time, several soldiers not far away pushed over a mountain cannon. Li Yuan ignored the three seven twenty-one, pulled them aside, and loudly ordered: "There is an enemy on the other side, hurry up and shell!" He then personally commanded the gunners to bombard the enemy.
Liu Yan, chief of the operations section, grabbed the anti-aircraft machine gun of the air defense regiment, and while cursing angrily, he raised his gun and aimed it at the enemy in a flat shot. The battered enemies twisted their bodies and fell down screaming.
At that time, the combatants of the military headquarters were only reconnaissance companies and communication companies, a total of two companies of troops, and Nie Fengzhi immediately commanded them to encircle the enemy from the flanks.
Although the cadres of the organs, cooks, breeders, and printers were all non-combatants, in the face of this emergency, they also went into battle under the command of Nie Fengzhi to kill the enemy.
It can be said that although Nie Fengzhi was the commander of an army, at this time, he "shot mosquitoes with anti-aircraft guns -- oversized and used for small purposes" and started the work of battalion commander.
After several rounds of fierce fighting, this enemy force was finally completely annihilated by the Headquarters of the Twenty-seventh Army. Later, it was found that they were not small, and they turned out to be a whole battalion of the Nanjing Pseudo-General (Unified) Government Guard Regiment.
After the victory over this unexpected battle, the military personnel were elated.
