McLaughlin spent half of his gaming career at Lionhead Studios, where he worked on Fables of the Gods, Black and White, and before that, he left a legacy for Games like God Crazy 2, Syndicate, Theme Park, and Dungeon Keepers at Bullfrog Studios, GDC Lifetime Achievement Award winner Peter Molinux (founder of Lionsgate and a colleague of McLaughlin's) praised him as a true game artist, priceless, and he made the company's games different. And also helped the company go in the right direction after lionsgate studios were founded:

Paul was a great artist, a wonderful mentor, an inspirational man. He is a huge cornerstone of my life, a professional, ethical, and interesting man who can see just and wise practices in any situation. I miss him every day in every way. His legacy will be felt and seen for a long, long time.
