2022 India Open: Lakshya wins

The 2022 Indian Open was a perfect ending for the hosts. Lakshya and Frankie Reddy/Shetty both defeated strong rivals in the final to win the title.

Lakshya won the title the first time they reached the Super 500 final, and Ranki Reddy/Shetty became the first homegrown pair of men's doubles to win at the Indian Open.

It is especially important that their victories are all victories over players ranked higher than themselves.

In the match against Xinke world champion Luo Jianyou, Lakshya was almost perfect in momentum and tactics. He seized on the loophole of Luo Jianyou's poor state and showed super patience and aggression. Despite losing a large lead in the first set, he remained rigorous and won the crucial first set.

"I started the year with a title and it felt better because it was at home. The first game was crucial and I was overtaken by him when I was a lot ahead. I was happy to win the first set and I had high expectations of myself. I didn't have much time to train after the World Championships, but I quickly found the rhythm. I did well in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, which also gave me more confidence in the finals. Lakshya said.

The men's doubles final was surprisingly performed by veteranSan Hendra, who won match points five times in the end of the second inning but still failed to bring the match to the decider. Hendra made a lot of mistakes in front of the net, even serving off the net at innings. Those mistakes also gave the Indian duo a crucial opportunity to take the victory away in straight sets.

"It was a special race for me, we won other games, but today was very important. We often see the minion duo winning the championship in Indonesia and we wonder why we can't win the Indian Open. This wish is even on my bucket list and I really want to win this title. I told myself to stay calm and there would always be a chance. Rankey Reddy said.

"It's always a pleasure to win a competition in my hometown because there's always extra pressure. We were satisfied with being able to beat the experienced dad combination in the final. Shetty added.

Busannan beat teammate Ge Tong to win the women's singles title, Thailand and India won two titles each, and Singapore won the mixed doubles title.
