From January 14th to January 15th, the 5th "International Public Art Award" Award Ceremony and International Public Art Forum Series of Activities were held in Qingdao West Coast New Area.

As a symbol of the highest achievements in the field of international public art, the "International Public Art Award" (IAPA) was launched in 2011 by Public Art (China) Magazine in cooperation with the American Public Art Review magazine, aiming to provide examples of public art construction for developing cities in various regions of the world, lead the trend of public art, strengthen the inheritance and development of urban regional culture, improve the urban living environment, and enhance the quality of life of citizens. The International Public Art Award Ceremony and International Public Art Forum continued to focus on the theme of "local remodeling", empowering the host site - Qingdao West Coast New Area, inviting experts and scholars in the field of public art at home and abroad to focus on the cultural characteristics and development needs of Qingdao West Coast New Area, conducting discussions and exchanges in a combination of online and offline methods, and contributing ideas and suggestions for the urban construction and cultural development of West Coast New Area.

At the award ceremony, the overview of the International Public Art Awards and the 90 entries selected for this year's International Public Art Awards were reviewed in the form of videos, including 9 in Oceania, 19 in East Asia, 21 in Latin America, 18 in North America, 9 in West, Central and South Asia, 3 in Africa, and 11 in Eurasia, covering installations, architecture, sculptures, murals, performance performances, activities and other types.

Seven regional winners and one winner of the International Public Art Prize were announced, with The North American Rael San Fratello's Teeter Totter Wall winning the 5th International Public Art Awards Global Award.

As the host, the international solicitation of public art proposals in Qingdao's West Coast New Area also presented awards. Among them, Zhou Zhenhui and Xu Yipu's "Listening to the Sea" won the first prize, in addition, there were 2 second prizes, 10 third prizes and more than 10 works of art that won the Excellence Award and the Finalist Award.

During the two-day forum, a total of 7 international public art sub-forums were held, and more than 30 experts, scholars and artists from 7 regions around the world formed symposiums in 7 different regions to share online. Many guests who came to the scene conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on public art services for urban development and cultural construction, public art participation in urban organic renewal, public art empowerment and rural revitalization, and the practical experience of public art and the construction of the operation mechanism of public art, and jointly discussed issues and new concepts related to the development of public art.

As one of the series of activities of this forum, the China Qingdao West Coast New Area Public Art Program Seminar aims to further sort out the basic ideas and working paths for the implementation of public art projects in the West Coast New Area, and clarify and clarify the possibilities and implementation steps of the award-winning plan. The seminar reviewed and summarized the research of west coast public art and the results of the international collection of public art in Qingdao West Coast New Area, and the winning representatives introduced the design ideas, creation process and application scenarios respectively. The participating leaders and experts put forward guidance requirements for the implementation of the public art collection plan in the West Coast New Area, pointing out that the public art works designed for the new area should aim to enhance the public's participation and sense of gain, face the community, face the masses, and let public art truly integrate into the lives of the people. At the same time, it is necessary to comprehensively improve the level and local characteristics of the local landmark public art construction in the West Coast New Area, public art works should reflect the nature of commemoration and landmark, incorporate public art and cultural landscapes into urban planning, create highlights and form characteristics, and ultimately reflect the cultural spirit of the new district, expand the humanistic space of the new district, harmonize the relationship between people and land in the new area, enhance the aesthetic concept of the new district, highlight the theme culture of the new area, highlight the urban spirit of the Qingdao West Coast New Area, fully reflect the history of the city, and show the past, present and future of the city.
