According to the FIA parameter standards, the secondary shaping experts accurately shape the position, height, elevation angle, parabolic length and angle of the jumping platform according to the track design scheme of the two competition items of the snowboard/freestyle ski jump.
In December 2019, the 2019 Boiling Snow Beijing International Snow Federation Snowboard and Freestyle Ski Jumping World Cup was held at the Shougang Ski Jumping Platform.
"During the boiling snow in 2019, in order to maintain the shape of the starting platform, the snow pile was blocked with wooden planks, left and right, and then the snow groomer pushed snow from behind to build the platform. The jumping platform for the Winter Olympics is made by a snow groomer that pushes out the rough shape of the snow and then shapes it artificially. Pan Xiaozhi, communication manager of the operation team of the Shougang Ski Jumping Stadium, said that artificial shaping will use different types of snow rakes, shovels and snow removal shovels, first for preliminary shaping, and then use precision instruments such as red lines and levels to level, make up for low pressure, and complete refined shaping treatment.
Simon Marek Adams, a secondary shaping expert with many years of experience in setting up the starting table, constantly measures and adjusts in the jumping area. "The steel frame structure under the big jump platform is first made of snow, and after the snow is made, we have to push it to help the athletes slide." Just like if you want to eat a dish, such as kung pao chicken, put chicken, peanuts, and carrots separately, and don't make a dish. The same goes for the snow that is created. The track was covered with snow and the athletes were able to slide down, but it was not convenient for them to pose. According to on-site measurements, the height of the starting platform is nearly 4 meters, the slope of the starting platform and the landing slope is nearly 40 degrees, and the length of the end area is nearly 30 meters.
"The design of these two slopes, one is to assist the jump, and the other is to match the athlete's descent angle, to maximize the protection of the athlete and reduce the chance of falling due to mistakes." Zhao Wei, secretary general of the operation team of the Shougang Ski Jumping Stadium, said that the design of these two angles is the most critical link in the secondary shaping work. The shapers accurately measured and built the track in strict accordance with the requirements of the FIA experts and competition rules.
The operation team of the Shougang Ski Jumping Stadium said that the track refining and maintenance work of the Shougang Ski Jumping Platform will continue to ensure that the best sliding conditions are provided to the athletes, and the track will be officially delivered before the Winter Olympic Games.
