The Divergents series was supposed to have four films.
If there are fans of the Divergent series who are still hopeful about the release of a fourth movie, there's bad news here. Even the producers said there wouldn't be.
Neil Borg, the director of the first Divergent and producer of the latter two films, shared his thoughts on the fourth and final part of Divergent. He said that while it was possible to continue, he did not think it would happen.
"In a way, it's a shame because there were originally three books, which should have been three (movies). Lionsgate is releasing Lost in the Stars, and I love Lionsgate... But at the time, I think I said to them, 'There should be only three [movies].' ’”
While Neil Borg did make a third film, he said he wasn't really involved. He added: "Things didn't go well, and then there were some outstanding issues left."

It's worth noting that in the mid-2010s, like other well-known teen series like Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games, Lionsgate fell into the trap of dividing the third book and the last book into two films — a strategy that was ominous foreshadowing to audiences and critics alike.
The third film, Divergents 3: Loyal to the World, was released in 2016 and was criticized for its lack of creativity and character development. Due to the poor performance of the third film, Lionsgate decided to cancel the original fourth film altogether and planned to adapt it into a TV series, but the plan was abandoned due to the lack of interest from the network executives and the fact that the actors had moved on to other projects.
Talking about splitting a book into two films, Neil Borg said, "It doesn't need to be this way, and it shouldn't be like this."
